What the hell is going on? What are Microsoft and Xbox up to? I heard there is some major announcement that is going to made! Does anybody know whats up? Is this the day they are going to apologize for "Aquaman: Battle For Atlantis" or something more important? I even heard there is a commercial with P-Diddy announcing something "important?" Who can shed light on this? Thanks

Why are there so many Xbox haters?
I have one and I love it. Granted it may not have the franchise games that PS2 has but it has some great games with some great graphics Is it just that it's a M$ product?

Shut up with the fanboy thing, I am definitely not a fanboy. If someone doesnt like something does that make them a fanboy? shit its annoying already. The XBox is not a good console. period.

Checked this out through work (obligatory reminder: I cover the gaming industry for a major media outlet). The rumors started because Prima added a listing for a Halo Deluxe Stratgy Guide (I forget the exact wording right now). This led to the Halo 2 early rumors - which are about as wrong as wrong can be, as that game has slipped until mid-year, according to developers I've talked with.
Phase two of the rumor was a revamped Halo, with a few new levels and the ability to play online. Easier to swallow, but also false. Microsoft would be cutting the legs out from under Halo 2 with that (and they've said this publicly). It turns out that Deluxe Prima guide is just a revised version of their current guide, with extra material that relates to the PC version. Sorry guys.

Good console or not, I have one word for you guys.... Microsoft! They will find a way to screw you end of story. Just like they did with halo when it should of been released on the PC long ago. Don't get me wrong they make good products but their business tactics have much to be desired!

Not sure what the announcement is/was... But I can tell you 100% don't expect Halo2 before Fall '04. Bungie Studio's won't guarantee ANYTHING but delivery in 04. As of 3 weeks ago they didn't even have one level completed. All of them are started, but none are completed.
And.. About not releasing Halo to PC before the Xbox?? The whole reason was money.. Pure and simple money. They had to give people a reason to buy an Xbox, and Halo was that reason. A pretty damn good reason if I say so myself.

I totally understand the money concept, pure and simple. But pure and simple they haven't received another of my dollars since! If it wasn't for the pc users they would be more broke than Texas Instruments right now. Just a shame they had to hold out so long to even release it. I still almost broke down and bought it till I read they cut out the coop on it. BASTARDS! But what do I expect they didn't get where they are today by being nice guys!

you can't get mad at Bill Gates/MS for the current situation of their software. When you run a MONOPOLY you don't have to put out polished code, secure software etc.. Why?? Because the average user doesn't understand Linux, can't comprehend Unix, and can't find a Mac. He is running a company while maximizing profits. That is his job. Blame consumers/competitors for not demanding or offering quality substitutes.
We are in a capitalistic society where the CONSUMER is the driving force behind DEMAND. If there is no demand, the product doesn't sell. Yet we continue to DEMAND MS Products (maybe not Dragon2fire, but most of the rest of the country!).

MS does record your initial installation of XP, they store your serial number on a server to prevent multiple installs. Just that information alone (serial number) has to be wiped every 3 months to make room for the next 3 months worth of information. Personally I don't like big brother watching, but you have more to worry about than MS watching your pc. How bout the feds reading your email?

I hate M$ software as much as the next guy. But the Xbox is a great machine. It took a leap over Sony's and Nintendo's consoles and created a console war. And because of that Sony added freebies and more features to it's console and Nintendo lowered it's price. Also Sony will have to beat M$ with it's PS3 knowing that Xbox 2 will be much better than the first.
Yeah, MS crushes its competition sometimes but it's up against someone almost as big as them and that will benefiet you and me with better consoles and games.

I think people give more credit to MS than they deserve regarding their Big Brother Activities.. That being said, is there a back door password or code that would let someone at MS take control of your system? You bet your sweet ass.. Every code junkie writes in a script of some sort that allows them master control/access, and I bet old Billy G is just that kind of guy.

X-Box is not needed, we already have computers. I can get anygame thats good on that system, on the Gamecube or PS2 OR PC INCLUDING HALO. I dont like the controller, and specs arent everything. PS2 is all you need, aside from a computer. My gamecube is just for the kid inside me, for zelda, metrioid, mario, and now that square is back with nintendo, im glad i made that choice.

It might be possible to play a majority of XBox games on PC, but it's also possible to play a majority of GC and PS2 games on PC if you know what you're doing. XBox is a videogame console, not just a PC game porter or vice versa. It has many great games just as the other two consoles do. XBox has one HUGE advantage over PCs as well: compatibility. No stupid driver updates, no idiotic error messages about having anti-virus installed, no videocard or RAM upgrades, and no random crashes to the desktop. XBox games work on XBox's. I wish the same could be said about PCs...not all PC games work on computers how they're supposed to. That's one thing consoles will have over computers for a long damn time: easy to use gaming. No errors, no extra money, no compatibility issues. Games WILL work on their respective consoles. PC games simply aren't like that. Consoles are designed to play videogames...PC's aren't. They simply have the ability to play games designed around the technology available. -Lasereth

I agree with IckUber. XBox just seems like the "poor mans" computer to me. The idiot proofing simplicity for running games might be nice, but the more you idiot proof something the more idiots you get. My PS2 is good enough for me. I guess if I really want an XBox I could just plug a gamepad into my PC. Better specs too.

The fact that I can pick up a game for console and play it without worrying about the PC game problems is an advantage that consoles will have until PC games work on every type of PC flawlessly. Sorry if my point was previously unclear, this is all I was trying to get across. -Lasereth

Lasereth is 100% correct. When C&C Generals came out I had to not only buy a $50 game but a $150 graphics card just to play it.
BTW: A couple of other Console Strengths: No hacks/mods. Everyone is on a level playing field. Compatibility: Everyone is playing the same version on the same system with the same specs. 99% of my online activity has gone off without a hitch. Cons: No mods. Counterstrike was an excellent Mod that until recently was ONLY available on PC. Most good games are released first for PC, so console people have to wait. All in all my PC still plays Strategy games and some new releases. However, my console is now FPS specific. I don't play and FPS games on my PC anymore.
