Anyone Going to Play Halo for PC?
It should be released on 9.30.2003. Anybody going to take the dive? I'm playing it now and, in spite of my outdated hardware, it still plays nice. The combat is standard, but the vehicles and ships to fly are really great. Love it!
Anyone? |
What kinda hardware do you have? I'd be interested to know if it will run on my New Emachine(athlon 2400+, 256 ddr, integrated 64mg vid card)
|
that will work fine, there are lots of mixed reviews on performance though, ive heard of cases where a GeForceMX400 plays w/ no lag, while my FX5600 works fine, but a Ti4200 was getting 10-20fps, it seems widespread and it might be driver related, but its an awesome game! cant wait to go buy it for real so i can play 8v8 on the net. The new weps are cool as well as the new maps.
|
I'm getting it tomarrow and probably going to set up a tournament as soon as tomarrow night. I heard it'll eat up your resources like mad though so we'll see
|
IGN gave it an 8.2. I'll pass. They said that if you've played the XBox version, this one will bore you, and that the XBox version is actually better. Oh well!
-Lasereth |
I have a friend with a beta copy...she's said there are some horribly messed up graphics.
Regardless, I hated it on Xbox, and I doubt a crappy port will make it better |
The final version is much better than the beta.
But, I have a p4 2.4, 512 pc2100, and an AIW 9700 Pro, and it runs like shit with everything turned up. For a 2 year+ old game, it shouldn't being doing that. And it looks like crap too. It runs better at 1600x1200 than 1024x768 :wtf: If they get a patch out that fixes a lot of the problems it has, then maybe it will be worth it. But as of now, it isn't. |
I've been playing it on a AMD 2000+, with a Radeon 7200 (still waiting for prices to drop :P)
It runs fine at 800x600 with everything turned up (save for AA), though granted, it doesn't look as good as it did on the X-box. I'm not on any sort of power gaming system, though. I give it three out of five "Meh's". Very intuitive and well thought out at some parts, but so much of it, situation and level design-wise, is repetitive to a fault. |
I want to play it on the pc. I hate the X-Box, but love Halo.
|
The Beta was pretty bad (see my other thread) but I'll still try out the full thang when we get it.
|
As stated above, the performance seems to be hit and miss. Some machines run it perfectly and some don't. Hopefully gearbox makes a patch that fixes this.
|
Running it on a 1.2GHz Thunderbird, with an ancient Geforce 2 32MB DDR. Pretty old rig, but it runs Halo at 800x600 with all details at it lowest very nicely, meaning VERY little slowdowns, even in large areas.
|
I won't get it. Kind of feels old now after the Xbox version sooo very long ago.
|
plus no coop mode :(
Gariig |
well
it was great on the pc , but i wont go for it again on the pc .. the single player is to lame with the boring levels (when you already finished it on the xbox) and for multy i wait
|
I need to get a better comp before I even think about actually playing this game... same goes with HL2 and FFXI
|
I played the X-box version, so i'm not really interested.. i didnt even like it that much... sticking with CS and Battlefield for my FPS dosage
|
I didn't play the XBOX version, so I'm new to Halo. So far, the single player mission has been pretty good. The story has been pretty interesting. I can't complain about the graphics, as it is a 2 year old game. Some of the levels are getting a bit repeative. For example when you have to blow up 3 generators, they could've just made it one. I'm just wondering, for those of you that thought it was boring, how far have you gotten in the game? I might have gotten bored with it, if The Flood hadn't started...
|
I posted this before in another thread, but the reason the last half of Halo is repetitive is because Microsoft forced Bungie to release the game before it was finished, simply to meet the XBox US launch. The last few levels are indeed repetitive, and even Bungie admits that. I wonder how the last levels would have been if they had longer to finish it.

Update: Yup, 8 minutes into the day after I got the game, I'm done the single player. Overall, pretty good. Looking forward to the sequel. |

Have you seen the video for Halo 2 shown at E3? If you havn't, I suggest you search for it. The first time I saw it, it left me speechless |
I will have it...I love Halo
|
I'm gonna pass on this one...
1)I'm just a poor college student with no money. 2)Not enough time to get into any game seriously at this point. 3)Still bitter at Bungie for not releasing to PC initially. |
Ok like I said I picked it up yesterday and played it last night with some friends and I have to say the exp. on a whole was positive. There are new multiplayer maps, access to more weapons. Also on the x-box version certain vehciles like the banshee were not available for multiplayer and now they are. So they certainly added more for the PC version, and we did have fun. My only negative comment it is certainly a resource hog. I have a 2ghz athalon, 128mg Geforce4 and 512mg of ram and I still had to run some of my visuals low to ensure no slow down. Anyway all in all I liked it
|
ill download it. and then play it.
|
thats fine, but part of the beauty of halo is CTF on Blood Gulch 8v8 style. Plus, anyone who is saying they hit it on Xbox so theyll pass on PC is crazy. New guns, new mp levels, and there are some things in sp that i dont remember from xbox, but that might just be me.

Agreed. Game was crap on X Box and it will be crap on the computer. |

You have the right to disagree with others, but your opinion at least needs to be explained. Why'd ya hate it? -Lasereth |
I had the leaked version a week back and the game on pc kicks ass, especially the multiplayer mode.
the graphics are nothing amazing, but the 1 player story line is pretty good. the multiplayer is where the fun comes in. think of it as cs where you can fly planes, drive trucks, get on turrets etc... |
I'm gonna play it since everyone says it's so great on x-box, but I hate console fps. There hasn't been a good fps shooter since q3 in my opinion, and no good single player since half life. this will hold me over until hl2 and doom3

Why didn't this game deserve game of the year? Why is it crap? as stated before, it is crap. Ok the graphics arent very good, the game is really slow paced, its just all out boring. And dont be all, just cuz you suck at it you hate it, cuz that isnt true, lots of people in my dorm hall have it and i have actually played with them on XBox and i win a lot of the time, but i still cant stand the game. It is a mediocre FPS. If i want realism, i will stick to Ghost Recon or Raven Shield. If i want crazy fast paced action i will stick to UT2k3 or hell even Quake 3. Why did it get a perfect score from Electronic Gaming Monthly if it's crap? Sorry but i dont listen to magazines. Why did Imagine Games Network give it the highest rated XBox score ever, even to this date? Because, at least in my opinion, the XBox doesnt have any real good games. People just flocked to Halo because it was so "revolutionary" and took so long to make so it must be good. Which leads to my next point. Why did it take 5 years to make, if it turned out to be crap? Because it was intended for the PC first and was in the process of being made when Microsoft bought Bungee and made them make it for the XBox only. So basically they had to start over from scratch. Ya these are just my opinions and i know you all dont feel the same way but, meh. I will give Halo for the XBox some credit though. The controls are definitely the best for any FPS i have ever played on a console. |

I was thinking about the games you mentioned that are better, and I realized something: they are all on PC. Yes, they got good reviews, but they are PC games. I'm guessing you just hate console games period, and refuse to accept that any console FPS has good qualities. Oh, this isn't out of the ordinary, a lot of my PC friends won't play consoles because "ahhh blahh the graphics suxor and controllers are for idiots." Well, you don't know what you're missing. Like I said earlier, most PCs simply have the graphical edge in frame-rate. That's it! People didn't flock to Halo because it was "revolutionary" and "took 5 years to make." No one knew what Halo was when it came out. I was at the XBox launch, and trust me, not a fucking person there out of the 100 where I got mine had even heard of Halo. Millions of people bought Halo because they played it, read the outstanding reviews, and knew that they couldn't skip a game like this. That's why there are so many fans. I guess PC gamers will never want to admit that a console FPS has any advantages over PC FPS. Oh well, I play both and enjoy both. -Lasereth |

And believe me i knew exactly what halo was way before it came out and so did everyone i know. I was severely disappointed though. |
Love it, hate it, either way, tell me about the new guns. ;)

Yeah, okay, forgot about that one. But I think that's exceptional circumstance. The Matrix brand name is the only thing that sold that game. Had it been exactly the same game by any other name, it would've had mediocre sales, at best. |

crap. I got so busy after I posted this I left myself out of the discussion. D'Oh! I have a P III 1g with an ancient 64MB GeForce 2 Ultra. From what I know, there are two main rendering engines, and of course I will be dealt the low-graphics version. Thats okay as the gameplay has been fun. I understand when people say they played it on XBox and yeah, it sometimes does seem outdated. I suppose on a high-end machine (i gotta remember to go shopping...) it would look really great. I personally get a kick out of running over people with the vehicles. It just cracks me up, dont know why. Almost as silly as hitting people with the snowmobile in NOLF2. Oh brother.

Counter-Strike is so unrelated to Halo that its very mentioning is laughable. |
Backgammon is better than Halo too.
|
Patch 1.02 has fixed a lot of performance issues. This game is the game I have been looking for for over a year. I am finally getting back into gaming after about a 3 year slump. I haven't had this much fun multiplayer since Tribes. wow, just wow.
the single player is fun too :) |
I wont be playingHalo on PC, didnt like the X Box version as it was, so I wont be playing it.
|
I dont think I will since I beat it with my friend on his xbox
|
Yes, I realy look forward to play this game
|
I've been playing for a few weeks now. Not a bad game, really. I'm only playing the MP portion, and saving the SP game for my new machine next week. My biggest gripe: only one run speed. And gee, some maps are so huge when you spawn way......over................there..................... WTF? Oh well, I still enjoy hitting people with vehicles. So silly. Terribly fun.
|
I played the demo and I liked it. The only problem is I dont know how to show what fps I'm getting. I tried looking but I couldn't find it.

i wont be playing it
|
I tried to play it, but it was buggy as shit, perferformance was crap(and my system is decent - Althon XP 2600+, 128 MB Radeon 8500, 512 RAM). So yea, I wont be playing it, at all.

I've played the demo, and while I do respect the Halo magic, I was somewhat disappointed. I think, silly as it may be, that the *textures* of things are to blame. On the XBox (at least over at a friend's house where I spent an afternoon or two playing SP), the whole game looked good. On my monitor, everything looks *bad*. The menus are pixellated and jaggy. The Pelicans look like they're carved out of a single piece of pitted, rusty steel. Hell, Master Chief's *hands* look like they're carved out of a single piece of pitted, rusty steel. :D I can see what is still a great physics engine (I spent 10 minutes in a LAN game just 'chasing' a Warthog around with fuel rods and grenades, flipping and cartwheeling it along) has been ported very well. But the actual texture .png or .tga or whatever files are sorely in need of an update. It seems like a silly complaint when I say it, but it really detracts from my suspension of disbelief! I guess I'm a sucker for the pretty. :/ |
i got that game. its just soo much better then the xbox version. btw my name in halo is halfshot and i usually have a server up called halfshot. you guys should join
|
Will HALO work on my 450mHz PIII with 256mb SDRAM, 64mb SDRAM GeForce MX 440 SE?
|
Didn't like the demo, won't buy the full.
|
im gonna play it tomorrow after a batchmate downloads it
MUAHAHAHA |
Halo has been the worst experience on the PC in my life!
Here is the story. I buy the game and install it. I start a game and my PC reboots. I try it on safe mode and it works, but looks crappy. I patch the game and it reboots the PC after the Microsoft Movie. I Patch it to 1.2 (latest) and it starts, but reboots my PC after 10 seconds. I decide to use a no cd *.exe to see if it fixes it. No luck. I use a comment in the shortcut target to get it to run "-use11" to make it revert from DirectX 9 to 8.x. I finally play the game and finish it and realize this. The game is built using 3 different rooms and the same 4 enemies! The outdoor combat is great by 95% of the game is running through the same 2 rooms and hallways over and over again! Don't waste you money on this for the single player aspect, it's a multiplayer only game! |
the vehicles are nice, the hitting aliens with rifle-butts is nice. You can see that it was rushed to hit the Xbox release date though, and the PC version only has a few new bits. The Xbox control pad is the best ever. Keyboard and mouse suck.
(worked fine first time for me) |

yep its an awesome game... i enjoy it
|
I've found the gameplay to seem pretty repetativce quickly, and runs rather sloppy even though I have a 9700.
|
didn't like, too boring n easy

I would get it if it included co-op gameplay ala ghost recon. Nothing like having your friends in on the fun.
|
You can play multi-player team play.
Be on a team with up to 8 people. Get it, its a great game. |

Good Lord. I'm with wombat. How many times will Counter Strike get compared to other games? I mean, there are hundreds of games out there. I'm sure it was good, but yeah, it really is completely different from Halo. If you're still playing CS, you should branch out a little and try some newer stuff...just for fun. Go ahead...c'mon...you can do it............ |
I am a FPS fan. I play every FPS I can get my hands on. I did not think that Halo was anything special. I was a medicore game that got repetitive real quick. Yes it does a really good physics engine for things, but that does not make the game. Having never played it on the XBox I wont try to compare the two, all my remarkds are based on the PC version. Maybe if this game had not had all the hype I might have thought better of it. As it is there are bettter FPS out there in my opinion.
|
anyone know how to make a dl' version work online??? i keep getting the 'INVALID CD KEY' message.. heh..
AAARRRGHGHGHGHG. I will probably end up buying it.. the multiplayer games look pretty koo... I was hoping to at least get online and try them before I made my decision about buying.. because I am not much of a Single player kinda guy.. I like the Online Competition. |
