Favorite type/class of dnd char:

Dwarf fighter.

Simple, tough, and a ball to play, you gotta love arguing with your elvish teammates. .

Soo, what do you like and why, discuss!

Also, favorite edition?

Im a massive fan of the monk. You can fight as well as the fighter, be as sneaky as the thief, heal yourself like a priest. It is a character where you can leave your party and go off on your own and be OK. I also love the idea that everyone is going around in this heavy armour wielding massive weapons or radiating heaps of magical power and then you have the monk, looks like a peasant, have no weapons or armour and is the best fighter). How cool is that?

Elven Ranger... i just love the idea of kicking ass with a bow, then when they get close, you take out your 2 swords and kick more ass :P.. i'm a big fan of Dual Wielding, and a bigger fan of Bows

Depends. If I know the GM, and the GM is one that stresses roleplay over dungeon-crawling, I love Paladins, usuallyhuman. They're my favorite D&D class to play overall. For those GM's for whom D&D is an exercise in small unit tactics, I go for thieves, usually dwarf. It's nice to be basically unkillable, and that is pretty much a dwarven rogue.

In reality though, I play whatever whim grabs me. Right now I am playing a half-orc barbarian/sorceror wielding one of those stuuuupid orc double-axe things. It's just chunky, fun roleplay.

As to edition, I like 3rd ed. I started playing D&D back before the introduction of AD&D. I played it for years and years, but then suddenly realized just how flawed a system it was. 2nd edition didn't fix the problem, so I just gave up on it and moved to other games. When 3rd ed came out, my interest was grabbed anew. I find the game completely functional now and infinitely better. I'll always appreciate Ol School D&D, but am happy with the current edition quite a bit.

I always went for the elven ranger, same as nonjoejack. Of course, that was back during AD&D 2nd. I also tended toward clerics when I wanted to roleplay instead of hack 'n slash.

Me too. Rangers and Bows! (The old AD&D Archer Ranger rocked too!)

I go for the classics.

Elven Wizard
Dwarf Fighter
Human Cleric

I've found that I can do VERY well with a Cleric,
most people don't want to play them,
and they are very powerful if played properly.
(Hit Points, Armor, Good weapons, & Spells)
I can throw a DM for a loop, and keep him on his toes
by using the Clerical spells in ways they have never guessed.

I'm partial to the elven ranger myself.
My first character was a Human Ranger wearing platemail and wielding a halberd. Squished one spider, and I was hooked.
My favorite system is the D20 system, so that would be 3rd Edition.

? Can you multi or dual an elven ranger/bladesinger?

I always play humans, and when I DM everyone always plays humans. I honestly don't think anyone has the perspective to play someone who can expect to live for 3000 years, so elves are out, and they are but the most extreme of the demi humans.

For me, much as I loathe to admit it, my favorite type is "The Tank", be it the heavily armored, incredibly strong fighter with a two handed sword, or the Greataxe slinging barbarian with the three figure hit point total.

Subtlety is nice if you think on your feet well, but 6' of iron is a pretty powerful argument, and I am an insightful, but slow thinker.

Athasian Elf Mage/Psionicist.

If you make it to 5th level, you're unstoppable.

I think psionicists are the most interesting class to play, as their infinitely more creative than any other class out there. They can meditate powers to create their own, unique results. They have very limited offensive capabilities, and they are also rather limited in the powers they wield (more so than wizards/mages), so I think they require a quick wit and a small amount of luck.

2nd edition was by far the best. 3rd edition I feel is too compartmentalized and restrictive. Just my take.
Plus, 3rd ed. nerfed the psion.

Well, in third edition, my favorite currently is my prestige class Arcane Archer. Elven Ranger with a few lvls of Sorc.

In 2nd I played a human cleric all the time. For some reason after every fight the whole party would be on the edge of death And I was the only cleric in our games most of the time

I'm not much on alignments but when I play I always go by True Neutral, though the occasional crazy mage is fun to play

ELVEN ROGUES!!!!!! I called 'em rogues even in 2nd Edition. I like using my wits and skills everywhere. I once convinced orcs to not attack me. In third, I like to use Short Bows.. Sneak attack up to 30 feet . In 2nd.. I was rambo with Daggers. I looked like a fighter, "acted" like a fighter, and so no one was the wiser. Thats half my fun in second edition, being a rogue and playing off the group as throwing Fighter. Being an elf is fun, and argueing with the Dwarves has always been fun. I also don't like being short.. short guys sneak around better and can steal better.. I say screw it, i'm shorter so i can't hide it as well .. that and if they don't think i'm sneaking, I'm one step ahead!

Every now and then I'm up for a fighting approach, which is still long range (I have a personal problem about melee combat so I avoid it as much as I can). I play a Human Fighter who strives to be the best damn archer to exist. Of course he carries a strange attitude. My fun one loves to talk to Msg Arrows. A dwarf threatened his life about it. Can I help it that he arrow barely missed the dwarf's head? Well, yeah I can.. thats what I called for
