Turrican 2 had some amazing tracks, as of course did the entire Zelda series.

I like the opening theme tune from Chrono Cross.
the opening theme music from FF8
But my favorite would have to be the intro song to Dics World II Mortality Bytes, 'Thats Death' I sing that thing to myself all the time. Incidentally if anyone knows where I can find that for download I would be eternaly grateful

mm. self, I liked the opening from Wizards and Warriors the best, though the Final Fantasy series had some amazing music.

LucasArts has a soundtrack CD, which has music from Grim Fandango, Outlaws and more. It's friggin' amazing - and I've been listening to it steadily at work for two weeks now...

Pure and simple, that game has some of the best music I've ever heard in any video game. I'd pick that soundtrack as a whole over any other game soundtrack.

Anything by Nobuo Uematsu is good. I don't think the guy can write a bad song.
Also the soundtrack to Carmageddon 2 was cool.

I gotta say I really like the Metroid (NES) soundtrack

More nostalgia than anything. Also, the music from FF VII is awesome. Go find Juno Reactor, they have an album from that game (Juno Reactor is also a part of the story in FFVII--where Sephiroth's mom is)

I'm referring to the intro movie of the Playstation1 version of Soul Blade. If you've never seen it, I recommend renting that game solely for that intro (well, it's a good game, too!). That movie is a work of art.

My favorite song has to be the song from Final Fantasy 8...I swear that song makes me sad for some reason...and the scene where it was played in the game...it brought tears to my eyes...it's so beautiful...here's an MP3 of it...CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO IT..here's also a neat techno mix of it...CLICK HERE for Techno...That song at the end of FF7 was also real cool...here's the lyrics if ya wanna sing along......

Wherever sang my song
On the stage, on my own
Wherever said my words
Wishing they would be heard
I saw you smiling at me
Was it real or just my fantasy
You?d always be there in the corner
Of this tiny little bar

My last night here for you
Same old songs, just once more
My last night here with you?
Maybe yes, maybe no
I kind of liked it your way
How you shyly placed your eyes on me
Oh, did you ever know?
That I had mine on you

*CHORUS*
Daring, so there you are
With that look on your face
As if you?re never hurt
As if you?re never down
Shall I be the one for you
Who pinches you softly but sure
If frown is shown then
I will know that you are no dreamer

So let me come to you
Close as I wanted to be
Close enough for me
To feel your heart beating fast
And stay thereas I whisper
Did you ever know
That I had mine on you

Daring, so share with me
Your love if you have enough
Your tears if you?re holding back
Or pain if that?s what it is
How can I let you know
I?m more than the dress and the voice
Just reach me out then
You will know that you?re not dreaming
*CHORUS*

a good friednd of mine has that song in cantonese

i love the war craft 2 music

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the greatest in-game music of all time, the Interstate '76 soundtrack! I coped that sucker to eight-track and rode it around town in my muscle car for months after I got that game. In fact, the music has probably had more impact on me than the game itself. Fantastic.

They even released a soundtrack CD, which included snippets of the jive-talkin' dialogue as all the trendy movie soundtracks do these days. Check it out: http://altpop.com/stc/reviews/i76.htm

A lot of the tracks can be found at various reputable networks by searching under Bullmark. Classic, classic stuff.

"Shadow of the Beast" had hands down, the best music of any game at the time. It still mystifies, and slightly frightens me.

You can't compare a game to Shadow of the Beast without completely factoring in the emotive response in its soudntrack.

The prologue from Final Fantasy 4 (2 in the US) which plays right when Cecil leaves the castle. I had a save game right before this point so I could hear it quickly whenever I felt like it.
