Disgaea: Hour of Darkness!

Okay i've played quite a few different games lately and haven't said much of anything at length about any of them because, frankly, most are mediocre at best.

i've not played this but an hour so far and i love it.

D:HoD is a turned based strategy game very similiar, of course, to Tactics Ogres and Final Fantasy Tactics and (I assume) FFT2.

but.... it's kind of like saying Final Fantasy and Shadowrun are the same. they are simply very different, just having the similiar theemes.

D:HoD is quirky as all hell, too.

You play a demon prince who's father died the day he took a nap. . . two years ago and now several demons are racing to take control.

sounds kinda dark and clicheish, eh?

enter demonic machate carrying penguins.

yes. Demonic Machate Carrying Penguins!

this is one tiny part that proves this game is trying hard to be unique. it is a cute anime style, yet dark storied game with a -very- deep battle system so far.

the damage done seems to be similiar to all the crazy ass high number damage you deal out on the Tales series by Namco. you can do major, major combos and such similiar to Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth (for the one other person out there who may have played it like I) where you line up characters and enemies to have a massive damage dealing combo. They can range from easy to insanely difficult to pull off but they always fuckin rock.

The graphics are very nice 2d. very detailed and the voice acting is good.

I would go aa bit further to tell ya about it but I am getting veeeery tired. So guys, we have Final Fantasy Tactics 2 coming in two weeks (roughly) but if you want another great tactics game, get this….. D:HoD is fucking killer so far.

A LOT better than the last Arc The Lad; which was good but uh. Boring….

This game got REALLY good reviews from everywhere I've looked. Electronic Gaming Monthly gave it good reviews as well as IGN. I'll probably get it once I get done with Advance Wars, Ico, and Knights of the Old Republic.

I just started playing it. I love the penguins yelling "dude" all the time.

edit: played all day today. Damn is this game awesome. I can tell I am going to dump WAY more than the 40 hours they say it takes to beat the game.

'Aye, Aye dood!' had me smiling like a crazy fucker cuz i call all of my friends dood.

man this game is hilarious as you get farther into it.

i also like the fact that i'm challenged and have to use strategy without playing a map for 1-5 hours.

i remember finishing Hoshigami. a five hour map.... once i did it and the power cut off. oooooooohhhhhh boy i was so happy. heh

this game should appeal to the busy gamers. the gameplay is a bit steep in technicalities but it's impossible to get lost from the main plot.

This may be the best game I've played it a few years. It's rare that I can get addicted to a game so thoroughly that I forget to eat and sleep. Anyone that likes FFT or Tactics Ogre better get this game quickly...it had a limited production run from what I understand.

Is this game worth buying a PS2 for? I've been wanting to play a really good RPG for a while (I have a gamecube).

This game is worth every penny you pay for it.

It can be beat in a few hour if you feel like going strait through the story or you can spend hundreds of hours getting all the best gear and lvling it up.

It's as in depth as you want to make it and it has a great story line. While the the basic story gets fairly easy as you lvl your character and their items the the secondary aspect of the game are still very difficult even when your guys are in the 1000's.

The story also has multiple endings depending on what you do while in the game. If you kill too many teammates or none at all or kill congress a lot or lose to one of the bosses....

lol... my thoughts exactly.

SWG is fun... but it takes so much time... I don't know if I'd be able to play Disgaea much. And If I'm paying monthly for SWG... I figure I'd better be playing it.

I still really want the game though. I've always loved the tactical RPG games. Final Fantasy Tactics rocked. So did Tactics Ogre.

Must... Resist... spending $50.....

guys.. if you own a PS2 and like fun games you're doing yourself a major injustice not to play this game.

i realized last night that i have 80 hours into it!

i can beat the game anytime. just having fun.

the only things i would change are:

yes you can get to level 9999 but the maps get fucking redundant quick. so it can get dull. it's great for an 'off and on' game once you finish the main quest.

that fucking music..... egads..... making a game that can go 200-300 hours really, truly needs a new tune!

also, i compared it to FFT but um.... it's really not. it is hex and it is strategy but it's almost what i would call 'arcade strategy'. i mean you can do lots of easy things to win..... where in TO you had to be VERY careful, FFT was difficult at times too... and oh lord .. Hoshigami still gives me nightmare flashbacks losing a 3 hour battle cuz i mashed the wrong damn button!

also disgeae is fricken hilarious
