Help with PS2
I used to get the Disc Read Error whenever I tried to play blue-disc games, but it played DVDs just fine. So I did the turn the knob thing and it fixed it...sort of.
Now it plays blue disc games just fine, but I can't play the DVDs now. I did the knob thing for the DVD and it still doesn't work. I've been tinkering with it for a couple weeks now and have done EVERYTHING. Vacuum cleaner, compressed air, cleaning discs etc. Nothing works. I tried taking it in to Walmart but they checked the serial number and wouldn't take it back because I got it December 2001. Now I'm stuck with 2 blue disc games and 20 DVD games. Is there anything else I can try. BTW, this is my 2nd PS2. If I have to buy a new one, I guess I have to with all those games, but that's a last resort. Fuck Sony. |

PS2's are very, very non-durable consoles... I'm on my 2nd ps2 as well. I bought the 3rd party warrantee when I got my first PS2 though, so I just took it back with the warrantee and they replaced it, so I was happy to have spent that extra 30 bucks...
If you're friends with anybody in the electronics section at wal-mart, there's a nice little scam you can pull off if you really want a new ps2 though... |

Yeah i have had the same problem before... really sucks. Its just because the ps2 is so old from what i understand. I would have called sony about it but it seems to work now for me. Could have been the new DVD drivers... but i cant say you should run out and do that.

Ive got a first gen PS2 also. Its crapped out on me several times. What I did was open it up (take the little squares off, then the screws) then the first time. I got a razor out and slowly opened up the drive, whiped off the lense, and put the drive back in and screwed it all up. Now when it goes out I just open it up. I use my glasses screwdriver and a qtip with acetone on it now. It works
