Who has the best games reviews?
Where do you all go to get the best games reviews?
I've always used Gamesdomain in th past, is there a better site? |
I like to watch x-play on TechTv. Morgan Webb is a hottie.
My current favorite place is gamefaqs. You get many different opinions from real people. It used to be pc.ign.com, but after giving moo3 an extremely high rating, I stopped trusting them.

I read PC Gamer cover to cover, but for on-line reviews this is my favorite: GameRanking.com |
I do.
What game you want to know about? |
EGM, bar none.
Actiontrip or Happypuppy I'd have to say.
Even if you dont play video games watching X-play is worth it just for Morgan.
Regarding IGN, I stopped reading that site once it went all "give us money, give us money." The popup ads were bad enough, but they started hiding all the new reviews and screenshots behind their subscription service. It wasn't that great to begin with, and I don't think the quality went up any after they started charging for it.
Anyway, Gamespot is flawed, but I generally agree with their reviews. |
As more sites are turning to subscription services or glorified ad services, I have gone back to word of mouth. Since I do not have a cutting edge system by asking around I can get a much better idea how playable different PC games will be on my system.
I usually check IGN, and Gamespot. Then various boards suck as psxnation.com gamefaqs.com and gaming-age.com are good places to read other people opinions.
I haven't trusted a review site/magazine since the NES days. GameFAQs.com is good because it doesn't rely on advertisment from game companies and lets users post reviews (although most of the users aren't terribly good writers). Being mostly a console gamer (since PC game rental places are few and far between), I've always relied on the "I'll rent it first" system.
I liked IGN better before they started charging for content as well. I still read their reviews, though. They generally have good writers, and I like the way you can sort the reviews by score. You can pull up a list of games that score a 9. I've tried out some cool games I might have overlooked this way. Also, its pretty funny to read the reviews for games that score 2 or less.
I'm going to check out some of the sites mentioned on this thread, though. Can't get too many opinions before spending hard-earned $! |
I'd have to say IGN is still a good site in my opinion, especially their reviews.
I usually go to IGN and Gamespy, though all the ads they both have are starting to get to me, more so now that I only have 56K.
Another site I go to is elecplay.com. When they actually update their reviews I always find they have a more unique view on games, plus I like the show that started it. |
Avault gives pretty honest, thorough reviews. I recommend them.
IGN and Electronic Gaming Monthly. Especially EGM; I've been a subscriber for 10 years and don't plan on ever cancelling my subscription. Best gaming magazine and best reviews period. IGN is a good second source, however.

I usually go to tothegame.com, search for the gamename and browse through the different reviews listed there if i get interested in a game.
http://www.metacritic.com
good reviews for games, movies, and music. they take reviews from all over the internet and give you an average score. good way to see the overall consensus(sp?) on a game. |
Morgen Webb is a sexy bitch. I trust PC Gamer
i have to agree with lazy...
metacritic is great because each individual person who reviews a game will have a different view, so why not average them? but other than metacritic, i would vote for either egm or ign |
matacritic is too slow
i usually go with gamespot and gamespy. good reviews |
btw, IGN is horrouble, they over rate almost every game
http://www.gamerankings.com these dudes have ALL THE REVIEWS! And they rate the quality of the review too.
I like Gamespot and IGN for web based reviews and EGM for print.
tothegame.com
Good stuff, beats the hell out of gamespy/spot. |
wow, I can't believe only one person mentioned PC Gamer...that magazine gives the smartest and most informed reviews I have ever read. On the flipside, the more they pump up a "soon to be released" game, the more it will suck - see South Park, Obi-Wan, the 007 game that never got finished and Enter the Matrix just to name a few. ALWAYS WAIT FOR THE ACTUAL REVIEW BEFORE BUYING THE GAME!!! *smashes forehead with keyboard*
anyone wanna buy Enter The Matrix CHEAP>?? |
Gamespy does good reviews and they're v. informal so fun to read
I prefer ign.com they have some good reading
Used to subscribe to EGM throughout most of the 90's, but haven't really looked at one recently until yesterday. Three different games got 10's in that one issue. Have they gone soft? They would hardly ever give out 10's back in the day.
IGN by far, gamespot 2nd but most of there reviewers are either anit- or pro- something.
Hey CrazyIntent, EGM has always given out 10's when deserved. You just picked up a lucky issue. :) The last 10 was probably 6 months ago, or whenever Metroid Prime and Vice City came out. This issue really was great though; showcases a nice month in gaming, especially with NCAA, Knights of the Old Republic, Soul Calibur 2, and Virtua Fighter 4. It just happens that all of the good games that have been in development recently just got released.
EGM hasn't gone soft. I guess you have to be a 10 year subscriber without missing a single issue to know this. They've only given about 15 Platinum Awards (perfect 10's from all reviewers) in 15 years. Every now and then a game will come real close like this month. -Lasereth |
EGM's not really soft, nor is it hard...it's just dead-on.
I LOVE game informer
Message boards, talking to experienced people directly is hard to beat. :D
Morgan Webb is indeed a hottie.
I usually check user reviews on a lot of sites, but I prefer to check a lot of scores on http://gamerankings.com great place to combine scores and get an average - with links to full reviews. |
