DDR can be a lot of fun, especially when you get halfway decent at it, and you can start doing some of the songs like you don't give a shit about what's going on around you.

I love playing DDR, my friends brought a setup on a PC to my lan party and we played all night. The only song I like/am good at is Midnight Blaze, although I've only played once.

DDR for people too lazy to get out of their chairs.

DDR is an awesome game.. even though I haven't had the time to play it for a full year and a half now. I stopped playing before DDR max came out, and could A/AA/AAA any song on Maniac =) Unfortunately, things seem to be a lot harder now (>300BPM?!)

Yeah, I used to play it to keep in shape (and also cause it was fun). I lost nearly all the fat on my body when I played, except it was kind of embarassing leaving the arcade with a ton of sweat all over myself. Now, I run, because people don't tend to give you weird looks.

Anyone have any info on hard mats? I have a soft mat for my computer but it's kind of annoying because ... well... it's broken, and it slips all over the place. Another question, but not as important, is ... how can I get the mats to work under Linux?

I got DDR Ultramix for the Xbox about a month ago... Damn its fun! My girlfriend and I usually play together, taking turns. Anyone else have Ultramix? I'm still working on the Light versions of each song, and can do maybe 6 feet before I suck. Anyone have any advice on pads? I want to get a second one so we dont have to keep taking turns all the time.

Yeah I have it for the Xbox too and I want to get a pad, but need a good recommendation. I bought the game used and it didn't come with the pad so the game is pretty boring with the controller

Red octane soft pads aren't bad. You need to tape them or graft them to the floor in some manner though. Hard pads are really responsive but sorta easy to break. Steel pads are really strong, fairly expensive and tough to repair but hard to break and really good to use because they are responsive. Or if you are an engineer you can be like my friend and his brother who built steel pads.

I was looking around at the red octane pads, but they're $99 a piece! I still think I might get some cheapie pads and just reinforce them with plywood like a lot of people seem to say. I believe I still have an old PSX pad so I could always mod it then get a PS2-Xbox adapter.

Problem with cheap pads is that they'll be un-responsive limiting your growth as a dancer. I'd suggest you just save up a bit and go for better quality. It'll be beneficial in the long run.
