No DOOM 3 in 2003
Activision made the announcement yesterday in their quarterly conference call. id, of course, ultimately decides, but I doubt Activision would throw up a false alarm about this, given the SEC investigation they announced last week. Investors are already panicked enough.
I'm torn. On one hand, I was really hoping to play this on my vacation around the holidays. On the other, that's more time for Half-Life 2. Still.... I can't wait to see the game! |
Half-Life 2 is probably the main reason, gives them more time to make DooM3 kick more ass. Personally I think D3 looks far more realistic and moody than HL2 but HL2 is still pretty ****************************************** *** * ********** *********** ********* *********** ****ing impressive!
|
Doom3 isn't using DX9 though, they stuck with openGL. I don't think it will look as good.
|
Doom 3's graphics are simply the best graphics ever seen in a videogame. I've ran it on my PC; trust me, it puts HL2's graphics to shame. Of course, graphics aren't everything. Check out Counter-Strike right now. It still remains one of the most popular FPSs in the world right now, and the graphics are outdated.

this is dumb
I mean, honestly, even when id does release doom, they are going to patch it every week anyways, so why not just release it now, and fix the small bugs the way they always do?
|
I'm not really dissapointed, HL2 is the frontrunner in my mind, graphics be damned. At this point, all Doom3 is doing is playing off what made the original HL so great, emersion in your environment.
Still, i haven't seen anything like what they've been doing with the Source engine in Doom3 so HL2 is the winner for me. |
what is so special about the source engine? I think the graphics, and the movies we have seen of doom3 look much more real and immersive than any of the half-life 2 imagery we have seen.

Did you see any of the tech demo? Shooting individual planks of wood and each hit made a different sound and the wood splintered in different ways. Each surface had its own logic and reacted in it's own way. I haven't seen anything like that for D3.

i've seen glass break, and zombies fall down stairs.. and oh yeah, when the one zombie breaks through the door, that was pretty incredible too... I can't imagine that there isn't interaction with the bullets.. too bad we haven't seen any fired yet... I have faith in ID

plus on top of that, half-life 2 is coming out a lot sooner than doom 3, so i hope its further along

I think Doom 3 coming out later (hopefully no later than January or February) will be good thing. It will give people like me time to save up money after buying HL2 and more ram.
|
plus they will have time to make sure that when you shoot wood boards, they shatter realisticly, with realistic sounds ;)
|
That just means that instead of spending $150 on Doom 3, HL2
and Halo I only spend $100. |
No big surprise that they're delaying it. I have a friend who was at E3 this year and he told me all anyone was talking about was HL2.
It's a good bet that id is holding back because the release dates were too close to each other. Doom3 is going to be huge no matter when it's released but my guess is after being trumped at E3 by HL2 they want to make sure when it's released there is no other big name competition to contend with. |
thats true, i think both games look amazing, and will both be fun as hell (in a couple of years when i have a computer that will run them) I just don't see why so many people are down on doom3.. expecialy concidering that the doom 3 engine is going to be powering games the will end up being much better than doom 3 anyways (just look at the quake 3 engine)
|
Maybe with the delay they can re-instate the multiplayer that they decided to do away with due to time contraints?
Can't wait to see CounterStrike on the HL2 engine. But still imo, DooM3 looks like the better game. |
Did you really think that Doom 3 would come out this year? Only small things(pics, Alpha) would come out every now & then. We still haven't seen any serious footage of the game yet...
|
I don't really give a sweet shit about D3 now, after seeing the 500mb HL2 vid, heh.

but i thought that they anounced that it wasn't going to come out this year...
|
I think that the HL2 will be a much better story line and have a greater depth. Doom3 will promise to be a better storyline but end up being just a shooter in a freaky ass place.
I'll end up buying both, but which one will staying on my computer? Time will tell. |
im am really looking forward to cs on hl2 engine, hopefully they will come out with it very shortly after the release of hl2
|
i want my DNF WHERE IS DUKE?!?1??!
Its strange that doom3 had a tech demo leaked WAY before anyone ever saw anything from hl2. oh well i hope d3 is worth the wait. |
Nukem Forever is Vaporware, my friend - it will never see the light of day. The first screenshots of that game that were released back in the day were on the QUAKE ONE engine. Sheesh.
As far as Doom3 and HL2 go, they will both be pretty, but Doom will be prettier, and how do you guys know that Doom won't have the same advanced physics as HL2? YOU DON'T. These games will both rock, we will all buy both of them. Only time will tell which one is better. |

As for DNF... well, they say it's coming, and I believe them. But there's no chance of hit hitting shelves this year, according to publisher Take Two. They've had a rather public pissing match going on with 3DR. |

I think it's funny how everyone argues over which game is going to be better, HL2 or D3. Personally, I don't think it's fair to even compare the two. While they're FPS, I think they're still going to be very different games. The novilty in D3 is that its the next big release from id in quite some time. I've run the leaked alpha, and it looks truely amazing... quite unlike anything I've ever seen to date. HL2's novitly comes from the awesome original that had a groundbreaking story line that went with the game. I think that both games are going to extremely kick ass and can't wait to play them both.
Perhaps best of all, is that id and valve will likely release their new engines to other game developers that will bring us even more kick ass games with fantastic graphics. |
So let me get this straight. As of recent, what are the actual release dates/months/seasons that HL2, Halo2, and D3 are expected? I'm going to be studying in London from September to the end of December and I feel like I'm gonna be away for some major releases!

all politics and joking aside, openGL can look amazing. I wouldn't worry about it, id never fails to impress. |
My only growing concern about DOOM3 now is that since id have fallen out with ATi I hope id don't make DOOM3 run like crap on ATi cards.

I'm happy it's not coming around.
I think it's going to sink under the weight of its own hype, unfortunately. Unless Carmack surprises me, which he has a habit of doing. |

The DOOM 3 engine looks incredible. I can't wait to see someone make a game with it.

HL2 will, in my opinion, be better than Doom3 but who cares. They will both be amazing and the engines are what i cant wait for. So many awesome games will be coming out using those engines. :D |
As long as it's a good game I don't care how long it takes for it to come out.
