For those that don't know, FSS created Hellgate: London and was in the process of making Mythos. It contained some former Blizzard employees who worked on Diablo 2 including Bill Roper.

wow. What a failure Hellgate: London was. I wanted that game to be good so badly though.

xepherys 07-15-2008 04:27 PM

Did you see who bought one of their games? FUCKING COMERICA!?! WTF does a financial company need rights to a video game for. *confused*

ironpham 07-15-2008 04:32 PM

Yeah. Hellgate: London was terrible. I played the beta, and I thought it was okay for like the first 20 minutes. Then I noticed the environment was the same EVERYWHERE. On top of that, there was a lack of cool or useful specials. And the whole subscription thing was crap.

Their other game, Mythos, on the other hand looked like it had potential.

Flagship put HGL up as collateral for a loan from Comerica. I guess they consider Flagship's closing as defulting on the loan so they assume control of the IP rights.

HGL sucked ass. One of the worst demos I've ever played. A total failure so they deserve it. It's pathetic when a game studio can't even make a game that controls well.

Destrox 07-16-2008 11:22 AM

Heres to hoping Mythos is taken by a quality developer and keep going forward.

HGL has been a wounded dog for a long time, this was expected.

I think Flagship announced yesterday that they didn't actually shut down, they just laid off a majority of their employees except for the core management group. They're not charging monthly for Hellgate anymore, but they're not accepting any new subscriptions either.
