Yes, you can create your own house in the game, and yes, there are already many mods out there. Try Fallout 3 Nexus - Fallout 3 mods and community

Cool, thanks, last time I checked on some fallout wiki like only a week or so ago, there were only 10 simple mods, variable changes. I see that the G.E.C.K was what everyone was waiting for.

Yeah, I'm definitely looking to pick this up for PC now. The mod scene has started to go nuts.

Just got an HD tv (It was too good a deal to pass up). I loved Fallout on my regular tv, so I'd imagine this thing is going to blow me out of the water. I'm throwing it back in once I'm done with Resistance 2.

I'm about to buy Fallout 3 for the 360, but wanted to find out some things about the character's maneuverability before I commit to it.

I recently dl'ed the demo for RE5 and was appalled by the bad maneuverability of Chris Redfield.
I was looking forward to the game, but I won't even rent that crap, now.

Since I picked Fable II over F3 back in November to buy, I've had F3 in my Gamefly queue, and it's still at Low availability.

Now, I looked at a bunch of YouTube vids, checking out the action, but mainly all I saw was action from the first person perspective.
A few times I saw him climb down into crevasses, but never saw him climb up or jump over anything.

My question is, can he climb, jump, kneel, dodge, strafe or hide behind objects?
Any of those are acceptable.

I don't want something anywhere as bad as RE5.

I'll buy the game if I'm happy with your answers.
Thanks in advance.

Yes you can do all of those. There's no hide behind objects button like in gears of war though (at least on the PC as far as I can remember).

RE5 has great controls though, I don't know what you're talking about? Did you play RE4? It's a completely different type of game though than say F3 or Gears of War of FableII (whose controls I hated). The games are really like comparing apples to oranges.

Thanks, YaW.
And, yeah, I played RE4 a bit on my GameCube, but I don't remember the controls.

If the game control in the actual RE5 game is better than the demo, then I'd be interested in playing it, but from what I've read online, and seen on X-Play, the controls are the same, and it just wasn't fun at all.
It was very frustrating to say the least.

It's good to hear your comments on Fallout 3, though. Thanks.

You can take cover behind objects, (my fave is hiding behind a column or tree, waiting for my VATS to fill back up, then popping out) jump, do all that stuff. No reason not to get Fallout 3.

Even better with the HDTV. There were a few times I got so caught up in how "pretty" everything was that I didn't realize I was being shot at. Stupid raiders!

Wow I can't believe I didn't update this thread.

I ended up logging a gigantic 52 hours on my Fallout 3 file (which is a ton for a single player PC game). It took me 52 hours to beat the main quest because if I did anything for the main quest, I explored every area on the way there.

This game is the 2008 GOTY for me. It was an experience I won't forget. The atmosphere in this game is easily as good as Bioshock, and that is saying something. The graphics on PC are out of this world. The plot was great as well and each location, while all dreadfully reminiscent of a nuclear holocaust, was beautifully created and unique.

A few complaints with the game: the voice acting sucks (except Dad, and a small quantity of other characters). The animations for NPCs and your main character are below average as well (you pretty much have to play it in first person mode). Most of the characters in the game are voiced by the same 2 actors, just like Oblivion. Also, oddly enough, currency in the game is pretty useless (by the end I had 31,000 caps and nothing to spend it on). I would have loved to been able to upgrade my weapons and armor with my money but instead all I used it for was...buying ammo.

These things do not ruin the experience and I wholeheartedly recommend this game to ANYONE that loves a game with atmosphere and attention to detail. You won't find another game with this much work put into the environment (sans Bioshock of course).

I clocked 82 hours, and didn't even explore all of the map. I did a lot of pointless shit though, just for kicks.

I agree with your gripes. I didn't even have to buy ammo. So I wasted my money on stuff for my house. I also found the range of weaponry unnecessary, since there is no tactical reason for a given weapon - thje advantages of optimal weapon choice is too small. Of all the "custom weapons", I only found the shishkebab and nuka-granades worth it. The rock-it launcher is funny (decapitating a super mutant with a teddy bear), but that's about it. The NPC's have crap party AI. They ended up getting themselves killed more often than not, and the tactical settings are far inferior to NWN and KOTOR- I'm making the comparison because the party settings are similar. I even ended up sending dogmeat away, cuz I couldn't bear to see him die again.

That said, its a shooter experience unlike any other this year. Easily GOTY for me.

Oh, and I played it on X360. I can't play FPS on PC's anymore - I've lost the dexterity for it. lol.

Thanks to this thread, I installed a mod that let me continue to gain experience past level 20. I reached level 20 at around 75 hours, I'm now at 160 hours of gameplay and still going, with one more quest to go (the main one). Agree that money is irrelevant now, but it wasn't for the first 10 levels or so. Coming out Vault 101 into the blazing sun of a dead world was a most unique gaming experience. I had setup a base at Arefu and had a pet Yao Guai for 40 hours or so. It was a caravan guard and apparetnly the caravan guy was killed and the YG just stuck around. It would walk around panting and growling, occasionally laying down to rest. I would leave him scraps of food but I don't think it ever ate them lol. He was eventually killed by a Deathclaw that wandered into the base. Lately I've been in Recon Armor and sneaking around taking out enemies with the dart gun...great fun. Jericho was a good, funny partner to have, especially in the dark, underground levels. I understand there are now 2 (3?) exapnsion packs now availale. One of the alltime great computer videogames.

I logged over 100 hours as my evil character "shithead." I got the explorer perk and just roamed the wastes, which proved to be alot of fun. However, being evil wasn't and I soon found myself killing slavers and helping people out of jams. I was still a "scourge of the wastes" though.

Sadly, I'm on the PS3, so I don't get downloads. That's a pretty crappy way to run a railroad, if you know what I mean.

I was a bit disapointed with the game overall. Still above most games of that type of course, but it just didn't keep my attention for longer than running straight through the main campaign. I also didn't care for the ending.

Yeah, if there was one flaw in my mind, this was it. One of the great things about Fallout and it's sequels was that, after the main campaign was over, you could still roam around and do stuff. Would that have been hard to do this time?

I guess you can on X-Box, but some of us are smelly, stupid PS3 users. We aren't good enough for additional levels and addons.

That's odd. I thought the add ons (Anchorage, The Pitt, Etc.) allowed you to level up past 20. Once I realized I couldn't get the downloads on the PS3, I kinda stopped listening.

After months on Low Availability in my Queue at Gamefly, they finally sent Fallout 3 to me yesterday.
Now I get to try it before I buy it.

It's looking good so far. I haven't made it out of the vault. I had to start over.
I went to save the game, and realized I was logged into my buddy's gamertag. (At least I didn't get too far.)

Dunno how it works, but the add-on probably allows you to import a player, or you create a player in the holopod. *shrugs*.

You have to start the add-ons prior to finishing the main story.

Are any of the Fallout 3 expansions out yet? A simple question yet I'm finding it difficult to find an answer.

So which is it, one, or two? Where can I DL them? I don't understand why there's no simple answer on their website.

There are 2 i believe, and they are available as Windows Live DLC for the PC and Xbox Live DLC for the 360. Welcome to the "benefits" of the Games for Windows label, PC gamers.
