 The ooollld game

Does anyone remember one of the first games made for PC? You were represented as a little smiling face, and the environment and enemies were represented as ASCII characters, there were lots of levels. I can't remember anything else right now. I would really like to know.

Was it called Dungeons of Kraz?

That's a whole genre of games, ascii games. Are you thinking of something rogue-like?

umm, rogue-like? I remember you could get whips to kill enemies or smash doors.

Rogue is an old school rpg, still around today (still updated today).
Otherwise, it could be any of a whole genre of ascii games involving little ascii characters running around. I remember one with a whip, but I can't remember what it's called. |

Also rogue was a game that was based on/along the same lines as nethack http://www.nethack.org |

well, alias, you were close, it was Kingdoms of Kroz. Unfortuneately, after dowloading, I realized that it went insanely fast on my computer due to the fact that it was made somewhere in the 80's. Sigh.

Use Slo-mo or some other application to slow things down for old games. There are a few out there but I've only ever used Slo-mo
