Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone thinks there'll be a price drop within the next few months for the 360. I still haven't bought one yet, thinkin that I should wait until the drop. Thoughts?

I have already seen it at a few places for $350 for the premium pack, which is pretty close to what I payed for my PS2 way back when, so it was well worth it to me.

If the reports of PS3's sitting unbought in some stores are true you might want to expect one from sony, too.

Sony's already losing money on their hardware, so I'd rather expect them to pack in some free digital content (two free PS1 downloads, for instance), before an actual price drop. But I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time

Wow, 350 for premium? thats not bad! Yeah, I've heard the ps3 isn't selling too well. 600 dollars is a whole lotta money when you have to slap down at 60 a pop for games as well.

It would be financial suicide. They are already losing enough as it is... the average user will have to buy 7 games before they recoup losses on each unit

(this is what i heard through the grapevine though, so you may want to take it with a grain of salt)

360 is getting somewhat close to a price drop. I wouldn't count on one before summer (like someone else mentioned) and probably not even until the fall. Price drops on newer consoles usually take 2 years IIRC.

The PS3 won't drop in price for a LOOONG time.

Well, I guess its just best for me to stick with the big black box for awhile then Haha. Its still playable in my opinion, Halo is still fun and I'm currently playing ncaa football 06 and mvp 2005

According to Wikipedia, the original Xbox was dropped quite heavily in price only 6 months out:

# US$299 (November 15, 2001, Launch Price)
# US$199 (May 15, 2002)

My personal thinking on the matter is that they are now just becoming profitable on the hardware, which is something that is new to the MS gaming division. I think they'd like it to stay that way.

Keep in mind that THEY themselves may not have decided exactly yet. Two of the big factors will be:
1) What Wii/PS3 marketshare looks like going into mid-2007
2) This rumored new model 360 that comes with extra fanciness, like a bigger harddrive, HDMI out, and a smaller, quieter CPU.

They could conceivably launch the 360 SP at 399.99, but that is a big slap in the face to the people that have supported them thus far, though it would be good in that the street price, if not the retail price of the current core and premium systems will drop slightly.

If PS3 continues to not be perceived as a threat, then that works against the price drop. Wii is in somewhat of a different market. It already lacks the power of the 360, a price drop has less of an effect IMO.

Keep in mind that the Xbox dropped in price only 6 months after it launched due to it being the latecomer in the last-gen race. The PS2 had been out for a long time already, and the Gamecube was cheaper, so if Sony decides to lower the PS2's price, then Microsoft has to also (which is exactly what happened), even if it meant a price drop after 6 months.

Wow, yeah this would be a slap in the face for ms to release a new system with more bells and whistles, esp for the same price as the premium package is now. I think if they do this the present versions would have to come down in price. Problem is that I doubt that this new version will come out for quite a while. Not much press on it is there?
