Now there's one, heh. It's an awesome, awesome game. The single player is amazing (playing through on Hardcore atm, already beat it on Casual.) I just wish the campaign was a bit longer, as it's pretty short. The multiplayer however makes up for it, imo at least. I enjoy the online play very much, even though at first it was frustrating because my teammates never coordinated. Once I found a group of people to play with we started having some serious fun. The Hammer of Dawn is hilarious in multiplayer.

Everybody says Gears is awesome, and it is. But just to go against the grain:
Single Player: Story? What story? I don't think they even bother mentioning IN the game what "COG" stands for. Were they lazy? Inept? Why don't they tell you what Imulsion is in the game instead of leaving it to the manual? Any hints about the story (what little there is) are to be found OUTSIDE of the game. I think that's silly. The cynic in me wants to think it's because they want to slowly trickle out explanations over the span of a few sequels... But honestly I just think they half-assed the story. Multiplayer: The weapons are almost completely unimpressive. What's new? The chainsaw on the Lancer is awesome, everyone's gonna realize that. And the torque bow is a unique take on combining a sniper rifle with a grenade. But otherwise? Standard pistols, automatics, shotgun... They even somehow made the typical rocket launcher (Boomshot) boring. Don't get me wrong; I'm not all about flashy laser weapons and colors, but I expected a little something more. At least more interesting functionality to the basic weapons to give the illusion of something fresh (active reload excluded; that is cool). Also, the modes player modes are lacking. Isn't Epic known for having insane MP options? Warzone and Execution are almost completely the same (yes, different enough to warrant slighlty different strategies), and Assassination is even more limiting. Yes it will be fun to those it appeals to, but where is CTF? Or zone control? I don't know; maybe I ask too much. Anyway, that's just me blowing smoke against the well-deserved hype-train. The game is extremely fun, but as gamers, we always want more, more, more! |

This game rocks. The game play is awsome. Co-op mode is even better then single player. the head to head multi play is fun, but i would like it better if they had more Halo style slayer/team slayer matches. That is really my only bitch about it. The grahics are amazing. If you zoom and and really look at things, the details they gave the world is just incredible. I was a bit disapointed at the shortness of the story, but the replay value on it is pretty good so far. And the Insane dificulty is not just cleaverly named. It really is insane. The cover system REALLY makes game. Blind fire is your best friend. And, of course, machine guns with chain saws. What more be said? Buy it, buy it now. If you don't have a 360, buy a 360, then buy it.

ARG! Seer666, you are making it so difficult to control myself and not go out and buy a 360 right now! I want this game so badly...

I agree that the single-player and the story were both very short. I dont care though, this game is amazing. I know they're leaving the story up to sequals, they want to keep this game going as long as possible... with good reason. This is going to be another Halo-esque cash cow. I always HATED Halo, thought it was over-rated crap which could not compare with Half-Life/Counter-Strike which came out like what... 5 years earlier? GoW actually changed the way people fight the battles, does away with the bunny hopping which always killed FPS's for me.
My two primary gripes is the fact only 2 people per Xbox can play. I have a big ass TV at my house, and we have 4 player CoD/GRAW nights all the time. The reasons given were the stress and system requirements, which are reasonable, but they could simply tone down the graphics for 4player... most tvs are small enough split that you won't notice. And the second gripe is the short storyline.. beat in only a couple hours. HOWEVER... I doubt I'll beat insane anytime soon. Takes about 3 clips of ammo to put one enemy down... the hardest thing about it is trying to finish off enemies with your pistol cause you're out of everything else.

I don't think I've ever played a game before this that had a rifle with a chainsaw bayonet.

I don't think there is anything in this game that is 'revolutionary', just a bunch of things that are done better than anywhere else and everything comes together perfectly.
The cover system is the best of any I have ever played. Blind firing is awesome. The weapons are all fairly typical but very functional and a lot of fun to use. The 'active' reloading is a very nice touch. I think what makes this game truly stand out is how well all the parts come together. It makes for a near perfect gaming experience. If you want a game that you don't have to think too much about, and you can just sit down, get immersed, and have a ton of fun. This is definitely it. Well worth the purchase price...

i dont own a 360 but my buddy does and we play co-op which is awesome, we are working on insane right now. i love this game, i have heard people say this game could be the Halo killer, which for me it is because i never really liked Halo in the first place. Ive heard that playing on insane triples the length of the game, which so far seems pretty accurate.

The end.

lol, yeah it is a pretty good game, although.. I have to admit I've been playing pretty consistently since I got it and the other day played for like 6-7 hrs. It can definately get repetitive

They do get repetitive as well. I think the downfall to Gears is the lack of multiplayer maps and variation. Dont get me wrong Gears is a fun very well done shooter... Its just not everything that it was hyped to be, and the multi isnt what all the reviewers said it was

but it's waaay too short.
I still like it, though. What I really want to see is the same graphics engine and same controls used in a WW2 setting ... or in a modern war game! That would grab the real historical feel!

I think theres alot of good and bad about this game, good is the cover system, its a little more intuitive than say Rainbow Six Vegas or Graw. I dont like the push A for everything though, it feels almost so dumbed down the only person that could possibly enjoy it is Halo fans. I would love to see this style of game in a war setting as well. Not WW2 though cause I think BIA does a good job of that, but maybe a Black Hawk Down style, or one of those real tight style fights.. I dont think the mechanics work in wide open spaces.. It will be interesting to see who copies this style

Hmm. I'd put the cover system in Rainbow 6 over Gears, if only for the fact it's nicer to squeeze the trigger than press A

I debated on that, but the thing is, you have to hold the Left trigger, and then peek out, it seems slower, plus I like the fact about GOW that you can do the swat turn and other moves directly out of cover. Thats handy

Yeah, it is slower, because it's special ops vs some hulking space marine *grin* Both are very well done, no doubts there.

This game is so awesome. A couple of hours ago, I fought the Berserker thing.......I haven't felt that damn excited/amazed in a LONG time from a videogame......it was so badass. This game was worth purchasing an Xbox 360. Most definitely. I just couldn't believe how he smashed through those walls. So badass.

I bought a 360 for Gears of War, and it's amazing.
COG is Coalition of Organized Governments, by the way. The multiplayer is SICK. I've been getting pretty damn good at tagging people with grenades. I love how fast matches are. It's rare to see a match hit the 4 minute mark. My only annoyance is when one person leaves during a match. 4 v 3 is VERY unbalanced.
