Mexicanonabike:hey thks for trying to cheer me up

Jetée 05-17-2007 01:29 PM

There is Gorgonzola and Aragon and Bavarian Bergkase and Curd and Mozarella and...

Ourcrazymodern? 05-17-2007 03:13 PM

And there's Sage Derby
And the most popular cheese:
Cheddar. Sharp, mild, and "other".

"Tell me. Have you, in fact, got any cheese here at all?"
"No, sir, not really, sir. I was deliberately wasting your time."

MexicanOnABike 05-17-2007 05:20 PM

a lot of them would make cool mafia family names.

Ourcrazymodern? 05-17-2007 05:51 PM

If they were cheesy
they might nourish the people.
Otherwise, they kill.

What the hell does "mafia" mean, anyway?

MexicanOnABike 05-17-2007 06:04 PM

you mean the term or the origin? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia you'll get both on this page.

Quote:

The word "mafia" is taken from the old Sicilian adjective mafiusu, which has its roots in the Arabic mahyas, meaning "aggressive boasting, bragging" or marfud meaning "rejected". Roughly translated, it means "swagger", but can also be translated as "boldness, bravado". In reference to a man, mafiusu in 19th-century Sicily was ambiguous, signifying a bully, arrogant but also fearless, enterprising, and proud, according to scholar Diego Gambetta.[3]
Quote:

The real name: Cosa Nostra

According to some mafiosi, the real name of the Mafia is Cosa Nostra (literally, "our thing"). Many have claimed, as did the Mafia turncoat Tommaso Buscetta, that the word "mafia" was a literary creation. Other Mafia defectors, such as Antonio Calderone and Salvatore Contorno, said the same thing. According to them, the real thing was "cosa nostra". To men of honour belonging to the organization, there is no need to name it. Mafiosi introduce known members to other known members as belonging to "cosa nostra" (our thing) or la stessa cosa (the same thing). Only the outside world needs a name to describe it, hence the capitalized form "Cosa Nostra".

Cosa Nostra was first used, in the early 1960s, in the United States by Joseph Valachi, a mafioso turned state witness, during the hearings of the McClellan Commission. At the time, it was understood as a proper name, fostered by the FBI and disseminated by the media. The designation gained wide popularity and almost replaced the term Mafia. The FBI even added an article to the term, calling it 'La Cosa Nostra'. In Italy the article 'la' is never used when the term refers to the Mafia.

biznatch 05-17-2007 06:30 PM

Corleone, Tattaglia, Barzini, Cuneo and Straccis sound like excellent cheese names. :D

MexicanOnABike 05-17-2007 07:15 PM

for sure! but i'd rather be in the mafia than eat cheese.

biznatch 05-17-2007 09:03 PM

Same for me. I'm French, and I don't like cheese. What a disgrace.

Zooksport2 05-17-2007 10:53 PM

I bought some cheese slices the other day, and whilst reading the ever so important nutritional info, I notice the statement, under "ingredients": contains at least 55% cheese.

WTF??????

biznatch 05-17-2007 11:00 PM

Kraft singles(or whatever brand of cheese singles you buy) aren't really cheese.
They're kind of like the Big Mac of Burgers.

Zooksport2 05-17-2007 11:10 PM

Its like getting a Pepsi when you ordered Coke.....

tenniels 05-17-2007 11:19 PM

Yeah cheese slices suck. It's so much better when you have say a burger with a slice of say colby jack, or old cheddar than some processed crap with a rubbery texture. That being said, I will eat cheese slices in a grilled "cheese" sandwich, but even those are better with "real" cheese. Mmmm cheese. I could eat a cheese platter instead of a meal. Cheese for breakfast anyone?

biznatch 05-18-2007 01:53 AM

Sorry, not for me.
But eggs, sausages and potatoes are the best before an active day.

Zooksport2 05-18-2007 02:28 AM

Lambs fry casserole
Steak, eggs and mash, gravy
Roast and all the trimmings

I am not a cheese person. I only eat a few basic types. None of that fancy yukky stuff... Blue vein, (sounds like a sex organ???) Camabert, edam, etc...

.

Ourcrazymodern? 05-18-2007 05:46 AM

I love cheese
In most of it's forms;
not feta.

It has the taste of goat. Speaking of which, Zook: I thought lambs fry was a sex organ.
