Will you/are you/did you watch the Leadership Debate?


I will be watching while doing work (and spending time here).

Yes, yes I am.

Jack Layton is doing much better this election during the debates. He was more of a loud mouth annoyance last election, but he is much better prepared and spoken now. I still can't get behind NDP ideals, but their leader is no longer a joke. Perhaps many never thought he was, but I did.

Duceppe (sp?) seems to be solid. Then he says 'well, we're going to win quebec and that is all that matters'.

I'm amused how everyone has it out for Martin.

We don't need to ban handguns. That is a whole different matter. I certainly hope that handguns don't become an issue that regains liberal votes. Kneejerk votes without understanding the issue.

I'm still up in the air. Shame. I've tried to be informed but who do you vote for when you don't wholly support any of the shaky promised platforms.

Won't be watching since I'm in classes between 6 and 10.

Watched it.... actually impressed, I found they did a lot les "senseless" bickering and promoted their platforms and ideas.... Martin not so strongly though. He became flustered and spent to much time defending or attacking, not enough time on ideas and platform.
Layton surprised me as well... did very well, although halfway through I got tired of "There is a third option, vote for me" statement.
Gil, well what can I say, not much meat in his platform... not really even sure what it is other then be a pain in the ass and push separatism. Don't get me wrong, if I lived in Quebec and wanted to separate, I would definitely vote for him.
Happy with the layout....
Think they should add a yes or no section ..... "Do you support same sex marriage? Do you support war efforts in Iraq? etc..." and they all have to say Yes or no.... damn that would be sweet!!!!!

A coworker and I were discussing the debate last night...

We both felt that Harper looked uncomfortable and 'shifty'. He looks like he's trying to force a smile and appear calm and collected, but really he's under a lot of stress not to mess up.

Really I don't think he needs to be. I think it's his election to lose.

I thought the host did a good job. I thought all his questions were great, with some real pointed ones!

Didn't get to watch it as I was at Kendo.

I will be reading up on it today though.

Heh. Funny story, I have a friend who works the night shift as a nurse at Montfort Hospital out here in Ottawa. She was coming home one morning at around 7:30am, and decided to stop off at the store to get a newspaper. There was one person ahead of her at the cash. Now, she's not a very political person, so she didn't realize right away that the person was in fact Jack Layton. She told me that Layton kept smiling at people, introducing himself, shaking their hands, and asking "Did you vote for me?". If you said "Yes", you were suddenly his new best friend. If you said "No", it would be like "Aw, why not?". I had to laugh at that, because that's exactly how I picture Layton walking amongst the masses.

His riding office is just around the corner from my house (on the Danforth) and before the election there was the odd time that you would see him coming over from the McDonald's with coffees. Nobody paid any attention. Now, for the last few weeks, whenever he is there, it's with a few big campaign buses, accompanying media trucks, and of course, the resulting traffic tie-ups. the odd thing is, my riding is fielding Marylin Churley as the NDP candidate, so I and confused why his office is here...

I don't have TV. I am sure I can listen to them on the radio but haven't made the effort. So I get all the tasty tid bits on the morning CBC progs.

Can't say I like the idea of another Minority Government. Harper has some bold ideas (Reducing GST) some mass appeal ideas (Same sex - Religious, Gun Registry - Rednecks) and the rest I don't really know/care.

Me personally, I can live with some scandal. No Gonverning party will ever have a clean slate in someones eyes. Money will be spent carelessly anywhere. Not everyone in said party will be an angel! Its all reality. People have to realize that. *Sigh*

The bottom line? Is the bottom line to me... haha. The Liberals have done wounders for Canada's deficit. Even with the millions lost in the all the scandals!! ;)

Blunt. I am voting Liberals.

I don't know if I will have much of a rebutal? if someone asks any questions regarding anything I have said here... haha I am just as stubborn in my ideas as everyone else! :)

Keep Martin in power. I like the NPD well enough to not complain. I thought in the last election he had carried himself well enough and Harper was to focused on pointing out the Liberal flaws rather then discussing his own platform.

Now I live in Texas (for grad school) and will miss the election this year. I would vote Liberal if only to avoid having Harper in power. I think he is bad for the Conservative party. I like some of their members but I think he as a Leader is weak. Martin at least has done good for the nation. The Scandle has been blown out of proportion, he is economically intellegent, has done well for the country as a member of government for so long. Keep him in power.

i tend to agree. People have very short memories.The Liberal mandate has been long, and there is a reason for that. Repeat after me: Brian Mulroney. He was to Reagan, what Blair is to Bush. And he was a PC, a progressive. Harper and his group are not PC. They are not progressive conservatives. They are to the right of Mulroney. I for one am not tired of the Liberal government, we are living in fairly prosperous times at the moment, and change simply because one is tired of the current flavour of gov't is not reason enough.

Scandals will be found in any gov't. It's best to weed them out and carry on with the business of governing.
