It takes too long to reset the turns but other than that: it is a fun diversion.

Lord, no. It was originally an old BBS door game called Legend of the Red Dragon, or LORD. A team of PHP coders re-invented it as a web-based game. I've done some hacking on their core code to make things work right on my server, but that's about all I've done behind-the-scenes.

Ah fair enough. I'm enjoying it :)

It's meant to be interesting (read: addictive) over the long haul, not just a short-term fix that you get sick of. The "core" server, the main official game server for the project only has two turns a day. My server has four (starting on the 12's and 6's, GMT). If you log in frequently enough, there's almost always gameplay available.

Have you thought about including submitted content, perhaps? New enemies and locations and such? Or would it go against the licence?

Yeah, I've got to agree. This seems like a seriously addictive game.

I have been laughing out loud, which is about the highest compliment I can think of. It seems polished and well thought out. Playing it has been a refreshing change. Thank you Ratbastid.

You probably already thought of this, but a post about this game in the games forum might be appropriate.

There are TONS of 3rd party modules for this thing. I've installed a few (Dycedarg's Academy and the Dwellings Module, to name a couple). Managing for game balance is quite an issue with this thing--make it too easy and it gets boring after a while. Keeping it challenging takes some judicious module selection.

The game was released under a Creative Commons share-alike license, so add-ons are fair game.

Thank you for adding another simple game that my young RP'ing self can enjoy.

I watched my friends play D & D when it was first released, I was curious. Decades later, I enter via computer games of the highest amusement and least complexity for someone like myself easily lost in concepts of stats and strategy. That's what I get for sticking to Tetris and the like.

I have played Kingdom of Loathing on and off for a bit over a year now, it has its charms. This is a game closer to what I think of for games.

I will quickly add, that I'm easily lost in it, unsure of what to do, yet, excited by the taste of an old style game with back story and skill gaining. I will hit that Help button often.

Ok, can anyone clue me in as to how to go about getting a house? I'd like a place to rest my bones.

Yep! That's my original work.

The game thing is written in PHP, and there's a very rich API for bolting new functions in. I'm working on a new forest special right now, probably have it up in a few days. I'm also going to be expanding that dagquest (which is pretty linear, I'll likely make it more randomized or at least with a branching path).

So what's the point of the clans? I started another one (Punchy Stabby Society) and can't figure out how to accept applicants.

I read elsewhere that the clans in the game don't provide any actual gameplay benefits, but just sort of serve as a place to post messages, talk with other players and whatnot. I could be wrong though.

Took 2 tries, but I scored yer friggin' lava lamp! How 'bout a fridge full of Guinness and Bass in the clan hall... a few black & tans to reward successful adventurers?

Neat game, rat. F'ckin' work and sleep keep getting in the way! And the kids and wife keep wanting time with the 'puter... damn!

he was weak at first,
but after much training
he has became quite the bada$$

I tripped across the means to acquire (or is it "hire") a wonderful squire (end of Dr. Suess impressions, I promise!) early on. I've named him "Slimmy Hoffa" and he is truly one bad mo-fo. I have to remember to revive him when I am resurrected, or my progress gets slowed way down.

Since reaching level 5, I've gotten my ass handed to me three times.

I noticed at the LoGD homepage that there is a ".6" version. Could the upgrade fix the busted link? Just axxin'.

They are just additional points that are utilized when activating your special powers...

Man, I got so ripped off. I saved a ton of wood, and after I killed the dragon the second time, I sold it all. Level 1 with the highest armor there was as well as a level 13 sword.

I slaughtered the first couple of level one enemies I found in the forest, and then I got my ass handed to me by a level 1. I got hit for 33 points of damage! I get to the graveyard, and begin to torment a level 1 soul... wouldn't you know, I was re-killed again. Guess having high end equipment in the beginning isn't all I thought it would be...

I still haven't figured out how to find a dragon to kill. I'm at level 9, about to go to 10, just enlisted a squire, have a stallion...

Where can I kills me a dragon?

Also, I had one screen where all of a sudden these funky graphics appeared, like silver cadillac tailfins. WTF? It coincided with receiving a message.

Sounds like you were caught in a tornado. Read the screens, choose your actions well.

Okay I have like 35 wood and still can't build a farm, has anyone actually built one yet? I'll keep a chopping in the hopes to get a simple farm to rest my battle weary bones.

Has anyone been trapped in the storeroom in the Aria Dungeon? Is there a sequence of moves to reopen the door? Or should I just quit and wait for tomorrow to resurrect?

I think that plugin is broken. I'm trapped there too. I'm going to pull that thing and email its author, before we ALL end up stuck in there.

I, too, sit around waiting for the 'hours' to pass so I may adventure a new day.

I have played for over a month, although, being so new to gaming, I'm a bit confused where things are and what to do with them. I like to explore and take risks. Bodes well for me I hope.
However, reading the Daily News that some people gain several levels in a day confuses me how the hell they did that. :hmm:

I'm still amazed at the fast progress. I knew there had to be a secret. I just have to stop dying and having my experience and gold taken away from me :) I'm level 13 and just learned some features in Degolburg :) Heck, I was focusing on not dying and leveling up.

One game day, or one real life day? I always run out of turns :rolleyes:

1 game day......I can take out the dragon twice in one real day(4 game days)
if I don't save up extra cash to upgrade my hat.

This plugin is a work in progress--the second map is about to be released, so isn't installed on my server yet. So you can hold up on buying them, unless you really want to get ahead on the purchasing.

Do you have to beat the dragon a few times in order to level that fast alpha phi?

It's a combination of things, extra forest fights from dragon points
The biggest help is getting an extra turn for flawless fights!
get a squire and level him up every chance......every 5(6?) levels
At level 10 he can become a knight which is stronger
At level 20 the knight can become a warlord.
A warlord gets 2 attacks per round, and can grow to level 50
He has 51-60 pts of damage each attack.....102-120 each round
That's a lot of flawless fights

Yeah, eventually The Island of Wen isn't big enough to hold you anymore. But wait until you're given a sign by the gods that it's time to move on.

Ok, one more question. I have an automatic popup blocker, and I've noticed it's blocking something. Are there screens that popup that I need to see?

NM...I just found the answer in the FAQ page. Duh, me!

Um... the MOTD will pop up on you when there's a new message. Ye Olde Mail opens in a pop-up, but you click a link to open it.

If your blocker allows it, it might be a good idea to allow popups from that site. I promise not to advertise to you.
