I still can't talk after last night.

I'll admit.. I didn't watch it (I'm in the States at the moment).. but winning in a penalty shootout.. it sounds like an awesome way to win. Very dramatic. That said, it's not a slaughter of uruguay, and a lot of shootouts, while still involving skill, come down to luck. It's good to win, but it's not as if it was a lot to brag about.

I imagine Australia will get slaughtered early in the finals.

Sorry to rain on the parade, but these people that never knew the Soccerroos existed are suddenly becoming the worlds biggest fans.. it's sort of annoying.

I havent watched Hockey in years.

This is a pretty big wn for us. They are ranked in the top 20 and we are about 50, so a fairly giant killing performance. Of the two teams we looked much more likely to score more goals in regulation time - we certainly had more chances...

I don't for a second think we will win the world cup, but the team is good enough to get through the first round.

I have a rugby loving mate, who is a member out at Stadium Australia (btw I hate stadiums being sponsored, so no mention of sponsors name here!!), and he said that is the best atmosphere for a game he has ever been to - non stop noise for 120 minutes + shoot out of game time.

apparently i heard that we are anked 2nd last in the world cup, so it looks like we are going to have to be giant killers just to get through the first round. we'll probably end up being in the pool with germany or argentina , brazil maybe? geez..sounds daunting.

i fell asleep during the game, i on;ly watched the last 15 mins..id rather watch real football..aka rugby league and union :D

if we come second in our group we still get through, so who cares who else is in it.
besides, we've beaten brazil before.

not to sound 'unaustralian'..but the only thing the aussies will be beating will be their dicks... this may come to bite me in the ass come world cup time, but i doubt we'd win more than 1 game at most. make sure u bring this post up come world cup 2006
