Canadian TFP'ers Marital Status Thread

I am just curious as to the marital status of the Canadians here on the TFP. Actually I just have never made a post with a poll in it, and I'm feeling frisky. So please, post.

I'm married, coming up on three years, by the way.

If you fit into more than one of these categories, click the one that applies you right now, at this moment.

kramus 07-08-2005 09:55 AM

Well . . . separated, and divorce proceedings in the early stages - but I am not sure where to fit that in your poll

how about "other" ? :)

As soon as I know I'll click your button, Daoust.

Common law married for 10 years now single for 12 and loving every minute of it! But then again, I need variety in my life.

And I thank my lucky stars everyday that kid's never entered the equation. Procreation is better left to those who dare travel down that road.

silent_jay 07-08-2005 10:20 AM

Single and loving it.

Me and my girl haven't really sat down and figured out our status, but we guess we're common law. We've been together for 9 years and living together for over 5 now. :D

Temporary_User 07-10-2005 05:58 PM

Charlatan, If you don't mind...why haven't you gotten married. If you did not consider yourself married I would understand, but becuase you do, why haven't you guys taken the step.

Just wondering.

But there must be some type of commitment there.

Lead543 07-12-2005 01:17 PM

Married, with 13 children.

Okay so, I lied.

Dating.

Minx 07-12-2005 01:18 PM

Single.....dating a little but haven't found the one who makes me purr quite yet.

vox_rox 07-12-2005 02:17 PM

Results not what I expected

Hey all,

For me, happily married, eight years this Halloween. No kids, ever, thank you very much, although I hear if you cook 'em right they're pretty good eatin'.

However, I find the fact the majority of respondents to this poll are single/divorced or dating. It's not what I would have expected, but then it's a pretty select group that end up on TFP.

Peace,

Pierre

Bob Biter 07-12-2005 10:13 PM

Dating in Japan, but I'll be single again in under 2 weeks! Can't wait to head back home!

Merlocke 07-14-2005 10:17 PM

That means you are single but taken.

As for me single, and available. Any takers?

We did get married. We had a ceremony with over 100 in attendance. I just didn't have a religious figure preside over the ceremony (I'm an atheist and not a hyporite). We also didn't sign any city paper giving us license to be married (I didn't see why the government should have anything to do with this part of my life).

Not afraid of commitment at all. That was the whole point of the ceremony. To announce our committment to each other to our friends and family.

Essentially we married ourselves. It was a nice ceremony and *many* in attendance have said it was the most moving wedding they have ever been to (and this was not to my face but rather got back to me through the rumour mill).

So in our eyes, our various parental units, lots of family and friends, we are married. Just not in the eyes of the law.

james t kirk 07-17-2005 10:59 AM

Hmmmm,

Dating the same woman for the last year now.

Casual in some ways. She's pretty entrenched with her life, me mine, so what the future holds, who knows. Enjoying it for the moment.

m0rpheus 07-18-2005 03:20 PM

Common law for comming up to 3 years now.

settie 07-18-2005 10:08 PM

Happily...single.
Honestly, I've no time or patience for men or boys at this present time. (dating-wise) I guess I'm just tired of the lies and games. Just watch, I'll probably jinx and start dating again... lol :P
But, to answer your question, I'm single.

Lewis 07-19-2005 12:54 AM

Married. But, well, technically I'm English, and my wife is Irish/Canadian, but I do have PR and have just got my SIN, so does that qualify me for the poll?

medici 07-20-2005 06:28 AM

Hey kramus,

I'm in the same place - but, I figure that if the only difference between separated and divorced is paperwork, then they are pretty much the same. Wouldn't you agree?

I would like to agree except for the fact that the ex and I are still tightly bound by assorted mutual responsibilities that go beyond the kid thing (mortgage, loans - money stuff like that). And that means I am not yet in a place where I can only worry about my end. Which leads to me not feeling secure yet about little things like going out on a Friday - because I have no discretionary income until we get the house sold and the finances reworked. Give me 2 months and I may have a finalized divorce and a set of resolved financial issues

Zephyr66 07-20-2005 07:13 AM

Dating, it's been just over 3 months now

Understood. I'm lucky b/c I could essentially walk away from those kind of entanglements (no kids, joint assets liquidated within a month of separation).

Best of luck with finalizing the finances.

Daoust 07-21-2005 04:16 AM

Interesting that there are 51 people who have responded so far. I noted that TFP has over 52,000 members. Lets assume half of them have actually come to TFP, posted etc., in the last six moths. 25,000. How many, of that 25,000, do you think are Canadian? I'd love to get a stat on that. Do you think there are 1,000 Canadians on TFP? Do you think that 52,000 number means every person that registered since the inception of TFP v.4? I wonder....
