The OC

What the fuck is that? Anyone roll their eyes at the new series coming out on FOX "The OC." Growing up in Orange County, I don't remember it being anything like that...I sure as hell didn't call it The OC nor did I ever hear anyone else.

So now I suppose I'll have to bitch slap people when they try to correct me by saying "oh, you mean the OC." I'm not really mad; it actually makes me laugh. Ha fucking ha!

Well, THAT looks like one I'm going to be skipping.

grumpyolddude 05-21-2003 07:56 PM

Has Fox done anything right since The X Files and The Simpsons? They even make sports boring.

I only know of Orange County from Thrasher & Transworld magazines. More handrails than people there, it would seem.

iRtehCrispeh 05-22-2003 06:10 AM

We're talkin about fox here ppl wut do u expect?! Can any1 say American Idol and Married By America?! Wut you're bitchin about is pretty unsurprising (gimme a break on the word its early n im tired:P) compared 2 the other shit fox makes!

limited 08-05-2003 03:11 PM

This is a really random question, but does anyone know which song Fox is using in the commercials for The OC? I'd like to take a listen to the rest of it. Thanks.

limited 08-05-2003 03:30 PM

Just watched Futurama Sunday, unless you are saying it isn't coming back. In which case I'm gonna be pissed!! I was mad when it left the first time. Fox seems to keep the crap and get rid of the good stuff now. They go for cheap exploitive ratings instead of quality shows. John Doe was good. Firefly was a little over the top along with Fastlane, but I thought they were pretty good. But yet they bring out shows like Banzai, someone needs to be shot for that piece of crap.

YzermanS19 08-05-2003 04:48 PM

Banzai=teh suck. Worst idea for a show ever. I watched a total of .12 seconds before I was more annoyed and confused than anything else. Old japanese men yelling about old lady chicken challenge just gets a little old.

No need for yelling.

Katyblu 08-05-2003 06:42 PM

I actuallt liked it... I can't wait for the second episode... its like he's this tough guy with a good heart or something... plus it just reinforces my opinion on assholes...

HeyAgain 08-05-2003 07:16 PM

I liked the first episode.

The funniest moment was the scene when Seth mentioned the fact Ryan was from Chino, California. The girl who wanted Ryan really badly prior to this comment, Michelle, just backed off only because he lived somewhere else.

What's wrong with Chino, California. Please fill me in.

Katyblu 08-05-2003 07:29 PM

My opinion is that assholes basically mess with people they see as being different.. thus alienating people that add humor and interest in life... most assholes are cookie-cutter types.

Now I realize that that doesn't cover all assholes. I know there are many kinds but the assholes in this show are the same kind I have known since I was in High School and are the same ones I encountered in college and now. Basically the "I'm so awesome and cool and I have money so you automatically suck so get the hell out freak!"

Edited to add: HeyAgain, the way I thought about it was that Chino is a prison in California... but I guess there must also be a town/city there as well.....

laxative 08-05-2003 11:13 PM

yeah right. like I have fucking cable or something. Only got PBS, and around here OC means oxycontin.

From my weblog:

I just finished watching the pilot for The OC. Fox is pushing this show about as hard as they did 24 last season. The plot basically centers around this kid, Ryan, who gets busted for stealing a car with his brother. His public defender offers him a place to stay after his parents kick him out of the house. The wife is pissed because she doesn't want a menace to society in her house, but he seems to bring out stuff in their son, which the PD likes.

The show seems like a bunch of rich brats partying nonstop off of Daddy's money, so I really don't appeal to the show. I don't care to see a bunch of high school and college kids passed out drunk or walking around in a haze of bong smoke with coke falling out of their nose.

I'll give it a few more weeks to see if I form a better opinion about it, but at this moment, I really am not to big on the show. On the positive side, the ladies in the show are quite easy on the eyes.

mute76 08-06-2003 10:34 AM

I don't watch TV anymore...If I see one more reality tv show, I'll vomit green chunks.

Katyblu 08-12-2003 07:29 PM

Tonight was a great episode.... can't wait to see the outcome behind this arrest!

limited 08-13-2003 04:02 PM

I was hopeful for this show, because I had missed the premiere. But after last nights episode, it shows absolutely no promise. I might give it a second chance though, every show deserves more than 1 viewing, but I really can't see it turning around. Sorry Fox- you bought another bomb.

YaWhateva 08-13-2003 04:32 PM

i liked the OC a lot. I was expecting a shitty show like 90210 but i got a really cool show.

I don't think it's another bomb, in fact i thought it was pretty good. Hopefully it'll stay on the air.

Who knows, I can definitely be wrong. Take that show The Restaurant on NBC. I watched the first two episodes and didn't really like it. Just saw the most recent episode on Sunday night and that show is starting to come around. Like I said, I'll be giving The OC another chance, see what happens with the arrest. I have to admit, Ryan's fate does interest me a little bit.

kalisto_911 08-14-2003 08:16 AM

If it is as riveting as some of you say then I might have to tune in!

I watched every single episode of both seasons of 24 and if it is even close to that good I will check it out!

curbserved 08-14-2003 08:58 AM

now, i really want to see this show, despite my opinion of orange county as the armpit of california. sorry, to everyone from "the oc..."

Tex 08-16-2003 08:45 AM

Orange County the armpit of California? LOL. You must have some really high standards. ;) Where do you live? Beverly Hills? :D

irieemon 08-18-2003 10:06 AM

Did anyone else think the first episode was a lot like "The Karate Kid" - minus the karate? Wise mentor - fights with rich kids - pretty girl

JohnnyRock 08-18-2003 12:05 PM

just watched it this weekend on a friend's rec....god show. Kinda 90210 [the good year] I'll give it ride and see what Fox does to fuck it up...

Beltruckus 08-18-2003 12:24 PM

I didn't think it was that bad actually, but I loved Firefly and John Doe is REALLY good too, I HATE FASTLANE with a passion that show is garbage. I wish they would come out with a dvd of firefly even though they didn't finish it.

dtheriault 08-18-2003 02:09 PM

if they want to show the real OC they'll add these storylines.

1. an entire episode where they're stuck behind an old person driving through laguna woods.
2. going to a miniture golf place in westminster and being accosted by wanna be asian gang members in honda civics with stickers.
3. involved in a car crash in huntington beach with hb skinheads wanting to fight them.
4. finding themselves in a small nightclub with mike ness from social distortion giving them lessons about life.
5. avoiding parts of santa ana and the mexican mafia/ F- troop like the plague.

just some thoughts.
