It's SNOWING!!!
Hurray!!!
I'm in a winter wonderland It's really coming down too- some 8cm so far. I am so lucky to live in edmonton right now. This topic is for stories about snowfall. Snowed in, first snowfall, that time when it was really special. I'll start off then. Back in 7th grade it was the middle of winter and it hadn't snowed in a long time (close to a month i think). I was with my friends at my house playing sonic the hedgehog 2 and basically wasting my christmas vacation away in electronic bliss. At about 4PM it began to snow, then harder and harder. Big white fluffy flakes that swallowed the sky. We didn't notice until about 6pm and by then there was almost a foot on the ground. We ran outside and I looked into the sky, feeling the flakes touch down on my face, melting into lukewarm tears that ran down my face and into my shirt. We went back inside and got suited up- the whole meal deal getting everything on. It kept snowing all night and we played until it was way past dark. Our tracks would get covered over it seemed as soon as we moved from the spot. I remember just looking at our deck light and the snow falling past it suddenly flaring out of the darkness then being swallowed back up as soon as it passed the light. It was a great night.

Being a Vancouver boy with limited experience with the white stuff, the snowfall I'll always remember was when I moved to Prince George for six months. The first time it snowed while I was up there, the flakes were the size of dinner plates. Incredible!
I'd lament more but I gotta go cut the lawn... |

the topic made me shudder! well i love the first snow of the year, its usually wet enough to make a snowman or other lawn display. last year we made a huge penis as we had company coming over and wanted a topic starter. worked well. neighbours were not impressed though.

The only big snowfall event I can think of was in grade 11.. It snowed SO MUCH one day that it went up to our thighs standing in the backyard, and we couldn't even open up the backdoor. So me and my younger brother were allowed to stay home from school all day if we shovelled it all, brr

I miss the snow we used to get in Winnipeg and Edmonton (hey, skier!). I remember one particular year in Winnipeg -- we got snowed in so badly, we had to force open the back door enough that my parents could push me out, all bundled up, so that I could trudge around the house and dig out the front door. Not the only time we were drifted-in, but definitely a memorable time. Also, I think the dog walked over the back fence that year and took a little doggie vacation -- the drifts were that high.
Now I'm in Halifax, and I'll be lucky to see my snowboard boots by January. *sigh* (Of course, that excludes last March in Halifax when we got 90cm of snow in 48 hours and none of it melted. The city was snowed in for days. That was kinda fun.) |

At least it hasn't snowed today. I'm a Victoria boy, just moved, and I haven't seen a lot of snow for 8 years, since we had this freak storm. The 'Blizzard of 96' is what we called it. I remember having to create a sled just so we could trudge to the groccery store and buy food. Apparantly, the city sold it's only snowplow to a town up island. |

doubt anyone in the East will forget the Blizzard last year that was like over 100cm of snow overnight. That was crazy. I went downtown in Halifax and the only buildings shoveled out were Tim Horton's along Springarden Road.... go figure.
I remember one winter as well living in Northern Quebec we got blasted with a Storm and I couldn't see 4 feet infront of me, no joke |

My two all-star players managed a win for the away team, so despite the occasional bruise and welt I'll have them on my team anytime.
Now, let's talk about your two angels ....better yet, let's just avoid opening up that whole can of worms.

Yes finally! It was not snowing at 7:59 this morning, but by 8:00 am, there was almost an inch of the wonderful fluffy stuff on the car! I love the stuff, even tho it took 45 mins to drive the 10 km up Victoria Park Avenue to get to work. At least i got to listen to the radio for a while (derringer's tool of the day!)

Good to see the snow finally hitting the bottom of the Valley there in Fernie. Can't wait to get out that way and hit the slopes.
I was out in Banff this weekend and it's looking like winter wonderland out there. I'll be hitting up Sunshine for sure this week. Looking good and still snowing. Should help cover up some of the rocks I hit last week up there.

Only time I really remember, aside from going to my cabin, was the one and only snow day I ever had throughout school (Calgary). It was almost bare the previous day, but there were rumours that we would be getting a lot of snow during the night, maybe enough to close the schools (this was in highschool I believe). Sure enough, the next morning we had about a metre of snow throughout my neighbourhood, and it was absolutely amazing to behold. My friend and I spent some time messing around in the snow, and I ended up making a LOT of money shovelling neighbours' driveways that day. It was heavy snow too; perfect for snowballs.

I lived in Edmonton for about 2 years. The second spring there, it was late May and the trees were all starting to get their leaves; you could feel the earth beginning to wake up. Victoria Day long weekend - WHAP! Down came the snow. Probably about 6 or 8 inches. Enough to break tons of branches off the trees in the neighbourhood - those new leaves were the perfect thing for catching and holding the snow. The roads were covered in broken tree limbs.
Ah, much as I like the occasional snowfall, I'm happy to be back in Vancouver - where I can drive to the snow whenever I want... Quote:
