Test your Geography!

http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/stat...te15s_500.html

I got 46 out of 50 right. Only one did I get obviously wrong, others were off by 50 miles or so. My average error was 13 miles for a score of 92% in 335 seconds. Only because a co-worker had something for me to do. Bastard wrecking my score

Only got 48 wrong that time! Stupid Kansas. Stupid Nevada... Oh I'll beat this game!

Not bad for a Canadian;)

Averett 09-30-2004 10:38 AM

Luck plays a big part too.... It helps to get those border states first ;)

And that's not bad at all... for a Canadian :p

Might've helped that my Dad is a Geographer - in the blood?

It really helps if the states are presented in an order to help guide the next one. ie: Connecticut before Rhode Island. My only error was on the first state - Colorado. It's hard to place it without any near-by states to help zero it in.

Averett 09-30-2004 10:45 AM

It's really hard when you get a middle state first... Like Kansas. It's impossible to get that right with nothing near it!

ShaniFaye 09-30-2004 11:01 AM

This really isnt as easy as it looks...specially when you're starting out with a blank map and you have to place CT as your first state

I got Score 82%
Ave Error 39 miles
Time 304 seconds (I got intereupted twice)

Averett 09-30-2004 11:08 AM

The mid-west states get me (when I have nothing to border them to). I can get pretty much everything on the east coast pretty easily.

Grancey 09-30-2004 11:18 AM

this was fun. got 44. I thought I knew where Maryland is located.

bernadette 09-30-2004 11:46 AM

45 out of 50, but.... i accidentally dropped a couple before i had them in place. :(

so it should've been 47 out of 50 technically.
some of those middle western states snagged me though. quickly found out that close ain't good enough.

bundy 09-30-2004 03:48 PM

50/50

not bad for an AUSSIE!

now, lets do some other countries. i don't a know a lot about mexican and canadian states/provinces.

bundy 09-30-2004 04:06 PM

ok, so to prove to myself 50/50 wasn't a fluke, i tried again... but this time the first state to drop in was that strange and somehow rectangular state, Wyoming...

ended up with 48/50 this time.

iamnormal 09-30-2004 04:27 PM

96%, 48 out of 50, avg error 4 miles

slimshaydee 09-30-2004 06:24 PM

It gave me Colorado early so I had to guess where to plop it down on the map. And I also missed Deleware. But c'mon, is Deleware really a state?

ngdawg 09-30-2004 08:50 PM

Cool-90% avg error-14 miles and done in 249 sec.

'course you did Bern, I believe you.

I got 86% (43/50)
Avg Error 104miles.

I knew all the 'wimpy, puny states' were in the North-East somewhere. The rest just fell into place.

Fremen 10-01-2004 01:15 AM

Ok, everybody take note!
From now on, Virginia and Kentucky have switched places.

That is all. :D

Locobot 10-01-2004 02:05 AM

94% 14 miles 360 seconds -- i didn't know I was being timed! One wrong, sorry colorado.

jwoody 10-01-2004 03:43 AM

Great find Averett. I'm now hooked on geography quizzes.

There's a few European and rest of the world quizzes on the same site.

Europe, advanced beginner level.

(I got 100% in 150 seconds)

Europe, Intermediate level.

(I got 64% in 360 seconds)

warrrreagl 10-01-2004 04:07 AM

43. My first three states were Kentucky, Rhode Island, and Wyoming. I was screwed badly from the start.

Averett 10-01-2004 04:12 AM

Oh man... I'll suck ass on the Europe one. But grrr.. I actually have work to do today. It'll have to wait.

Fly 10-01-2004 04:26 AM

72%...........thanx Av that was fun

Averett 10-01-2004 04:57 AM

Damn... That European one kicked my ass. 34/44 152 miles margin of error and 77% accuracy.

There were some countries I didn't even know :(

Here's the whole website: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/

They have an advanced US version, where only one state is visible at a time. Hard!

MikeyChalupa 10-01-2004 05:12 AM

46/50, 92% 15 miles margin of error, 236 seconds. had to lead off with Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota, did well after that. Fun times!

MikeyChalupa 10-01-2004 05:20 AM

Did pretty well in Europe too, 39/44, 89%, 41 miles margin of error, 277 seconds. The biggest country I got wrong was Moldova. But DAMN ALL THOSE LITTLE DOT COUNTRIES!

-Mikey

Got a 92% with avg 10 mile error on the US one, 340 seconds. I did better than I thought I would on the east coast states - it doesn't help that I've never been that far northeast. I was lucky to get Hawaii, Oregon, Texas, and Wisconsin in the first states.

49 of 50, < 1 mile error. I forgot that Nebraska has that little strip of boder with Missouri to the southeast, so I was off by 50 miles there. False confidence from getting Ohio, Montana and Utah as the first three.
