NHL lockout/strike

Maybe this should go in sports but...

With an upcoming (and seemingly inevitable lockout) with the NHL, what will you do for your Hockey fix?

Personally I'm going to see more OHL games. I tried to make it out as much as I could last year but just didnt have the time (figures tho that odds are the Guelph Storm are going to suck large this year).

Jackebear 09-09-2004 12:57 AM

That's a good idea. I started going to some London Knights games last year in the new John Labatt Centre (which is an awesome place to see a game) and it was awesome. The place was packed, the atmosphere was great and the games were entertaining.

I'll also probably dig up some old VHS cassettes of a bunch of play-off games of the past.

The odds are there will be a lock out...damn it. Why can't they all just get along.

OFKU0 09-09-2004 08:48 AM

I wouldn't care if the NHL never played another game if it weren't for the fact that I make very good money betting on hockey. Any other sport or casino gambling I stay away from,..but betting on hockey is like shooting fish in a barrel. Don't know where I'll make up my disposible income if they strike.

Here in the states I have always enjoyed going to college Division I games. I've been to too many NHL games, mid -season against an uninspiring opponent where the 2 teams sort of sleepwalk through a game for 60 minutes. The college kids bring a whole different energy to the game.

Not to mention I can go to a college game with my wife, and have dinner together for the cost of a single ticket to an NHL game.

billyeggs 09-09-2004 07:23 PM

As a Flames fan I have my fingers crossed they will sort this all out

Averett 09-10-2004 09:40 AM

Like eribrav I go to quite a few Division I games during the year. Go RPI :D

I'd love to see a game in Canada. Maybe Guelph Storm ;) Or umm... Kitchner Knights? Waterloo Knights? Hell, I think it's the Knights....

Baldrick 09-10-2004 03:33 PM

Moving to Barrie in two weeks (oh man, can't wait), so while I'm not a huge hockey fan, I'll definitely take in a few Barrie Colts games...

wakelagger 09-10-2004 07:11 PM

I'd say let them strike, let the NHL burn to the ground, and let the Original Six rise from the ashes.
But honestly, having all the best players on 6 teams rather 30 will increase the level of play because the skill level is concentrated.
But hand in hand with this, the new/really old NHL will have to heavily endorse the minor league games as an alternate to the NHL in order keep the developmental leagues in top condition.

The damn NHLPA needs to wake up and smell reality.

Pricks.

/me breaks down sobbing.

I *sniff* want *sob* my hockey back!

But, I'll probably follow Jackebear's lead and start catching more Knights games. I'm at the JLC enough anyways heh.

feelgood 09-20-2004 11:27 AM

Damn lockouts...

I dunno what I'll do, there's always NFL and Hitman hockey.

Ace_O_Spades 09-20-2004 01:02 PM

I can't cheer for the Vancouver Giants... so I won't be going to many WHL games

the Kamloops Blazers are the only WHL team i'd go watch... maybe I'll go watch when they come to Vancouver

/me was a 14 year Blazer fan

Personally I'll just be laughing my ass off watching the people in my hometown where any teenage boy that can slap a puck around is considered a god. They'll be so lost without Hockey Night In Canada.

leo_cote 10-06-2004 08:47 PM

The owners and the players are playing a game of chicken but we are the ones who are loosing

CandleInTheDark 10-07-2004 07:24 PM

CIS and AHL here I come.

01TC 10-08-2004 09:32 AM

I'll be taking in Edmonton Roadrunners games this year.

williejim 10-14-2004 08:22 AM

yeah - me too, been over to Kitchener for a couple so far and into London for 3... great games - good price (except for the beer)
Go Knights Go...

Broonix 10-16-2004 03:04 PM

Blah the Ottawa '67 just arent as good as watching a NHL game

yoyoyobro 10-19-2004 10:38 AM

Need the NHL back!!! Anyone hear any new news on the lockout front on how and if an agreement is comming along

leo_cote 10-19-2004 04:51 PM

Not good the NHL just told the owners they can rent the buildings out till the 3rd of December.

Fate 10-24-2004 01:06 PM

If you need a fix, watch College hockey, It's close to NHL, and will tide you over.

And this whole hockey lockout, the owners agreed to pay the players X salary, so it's a 2 way street when: A. The owners don't want to pay, but B. They agreed to pay them that in the first place.

How bout I give you 20$ an hour for a job, and tell you a week later you're going down to 17$ an hour. All in all though, I do agree with the lockout, average player makes something like 30,000$ a game.

portereight 10-25-2004 05:07 AM

"How bout I give you 20$ an hour for a job, and tell you a week later you're going down to 17$ an hour."
Or how bout I give you a huge overflowing barrel of money to play a game, and then tell you that next time your just going to have to bite the bullet and take a slightly smaller barrel.
Of coarse unless the owners are saying that this pay cut will be accompanied by reduced ticket and merchandising prices... Yeah, I never heard that either.

blizzak 10-25-2004 10:03 PM

university hockey, refereeing, road hockey (with the engineers, mind you)
gotta love Guelph!

wolfpack0102 10-26-2004 03:39 AM

greed is ruining the game

No, but if you nip across the river, the Hull/Gatineau Olympiques games are way more exciting than any Sens game I've ever been to. Quebec league is good old fashioned, firewagon hockey. Lots of scoring and fighting.

leo_cote 11-05-2004 12:35 PM

When the players got together last week, out of all the reporters there where only 2 from the states. Goes to show you its a canadien game
