ignoble awards
I heard the guy who started these awards on the radio this afternoon.
They have categories like the noble prizes and are judged based "when you first hear what the person is doing, you laugh, then it makes you think". Anyway, here is the web site - there are some quite funny things being done (especially in the world of science). http://www.improb.com/ig/ig-top.html see the list of past winners Finally, he said a lot of previous winners don't realise that what they are doing is funny (until they win an award). PS - hope this is posted in the right place - thought it was humour, till I saw you can't post links there |

Ahh yes, the "Ig Nobel" prize. It's a funny and fitting spoof of the Nobel prize. Some of the research these people are doing is absolutely ridiculous.
It's a great site. I have long been a fan of the Annals of Improbable Research.

Yeah, I love the Igs. I used to subscribe to the Journal of Irreproducible Results (which is before the JIR was sold, and the AIR was founded).
There's a blog with an RSS feed available; see Improbable Research -- What's New.
