I haven't seen much.. but my favourite Aussie flicks are...
The Castle (classic, and I still am not sure I get all the jokes). Crackerjack (yeah yeah, Mick was alright in this) Hercules Returns (Great when under the influence of certain substances) The Nugget (eh.. not bad.. but I can't think of other Aussie movies and can't be stuffed going through Ella's (huge) list ) I've seen a movie called "something" Beach.. and it was pretty much about some chick who rooted w/ a lot of guys on the boat.. in the water.. on the beach.. wherever. I saw this on channel ten after only living here for a couple months.. really warpped my view of Aussie beaches (and I went to them more often heheh). |

Oh yeah....The Castle is a classic. Also worthy are Two Hands and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Chopper and The Interview.
Has anyone else seen Proof? Has one of Russell Crowe's first roles, and also stars Hugo Weaving. Very, very good film.

Ditch Moulin Rouge for Priscilla Queen of the Desert. The women are more believable, the guys less whiny, and they're all the same people.

When I was studying in Sydney I took an Australian sports history class, and we had to watch this movie called "The Club". It was about an Aussie rules team, Collingwood maybe? Anyways I thought the film was hilarious, does anyone know how I could find a copy of this movie?

Yeah, Australia has some awesome films. And aussie cinema is well respected the world over. A mate of mine just got back from trying to shop off his screenplay in LA and said that the there was heeps of interest because he was aussie. We also have a shitload of well respected actors, directors, cinematogrophers etc.

It is indeed an eerie film. I remember going to Hanging Rock (about 45 min drive from Melbourne) many years ago when I was little after seeing the film (seemed like a good idea to my mother at the time) but it scared the crap out of me. It truly is a spooky place.

I believe Eric Bana has been offered film roles purely on the strength of his role in 'Chopper' (and remember he was hand-picked by Mark Reid himself for the role). It's an incredible performance for a debut dramatic outing.

The Castle - that one went straight to the pool room!
Mad Max - the original. Only problem is I bought it on DVD over here in the UK and the default language is "AMERICAN"!!! They dubbed over the original voices with bloody american accents. If you want the original aussie voices, you have to go and change it each time. That really gets on my tits. |
