What's the 3 most expensive things you've bought?

I think can guess many people's top two.

For me, it's as follows.

1) 2003 Ford XR6 Turbo @ $54,000
2) Pearl and diamond necklace and ear-rings wedding present for my wife @ $16,000
3) Diamond and platinum engagement ring @ $8,000

Of course, once I buy a house, that will go to the top.

Strange what we spend our money on, no?

I have invested a lot of money in stereo equipment over the years, I have some decent stuff, that right now is not worth what I paid for it, but I could still blow the roof off of Madison Square Garden if I chose to. Alas, all I use now is my IPod.

Computer equipment

and there's a ton invested in my doll collection.

No one item is worth anything by itself..

Charlatan 06-10-2004 08:29 AM

a) house (though technically I am still paying it off)
b) kitchen renovation (not one item but certainly a lot of money)
b) car

tropple 06-10-2004 08:32 AM

Three daughters!

maleficent 06-10-2004 08:36 AM

oh wait, correction, my college education.... i think that cost me more than 80,000 dollars- -how about that - I do have a high ticket item, and here i thought I was cheap.

Raw Kuts 06-10-2004 08:38 AM

1) Spring tuition 2004 ($300 something, it's there because the price went up from what it was the previous semester).
2) Spring books ($250)
3) nVidia Geforce 4 Ti4400 ($200 at the time, the 4200 was about to come out, but my TNT2 died so I need a new card right away. This was a while back)

Yea.... that's about it. The next highest thing that would be on the list would be $80 for the antec case I got three years ago.

EDIT: for some reason I thought 250 was more than 300... rearranged the numbers.

State schools are very reasonable still, it's the private schools that get ya.
I just checked my beloved prison -- i mean alma mater, when I graduated in '86, it was just over 20K a year, now it's damn near close to 40K. Glad I am as old as I am.

Blackthorn 06-10-2004 09:30 AM

House - $389,900.00
2004 F-150 Lariat (loaded) - xplan priced at $34,750.

Dang that's a lot for a necklace!

Hmm...

1. College education. Roughly $50,000. Most of which were loans that have been paid off (thank God). Luckly my parents took out loans as well as scholerships, or I'd be about $90,000 in the hole.
2. My car, soon I'll have it all paid off :D $22,000ish
3. Hmm... The furniture for my apartment. Roughtly $6,000 total.

sportsrule101 06-10-2004 10:12 AM

Engineering Degree - $80,000 plus intrest on loans
Engagement Ring - $2000
Fill 23 gallon gas tank - $50

It was a really nice necklace.. I'll find its equal some day and give it to someone who deserves it

World's King 06-10-2004 10:16 AM

Cars... all 15 of them.

I don't know. I don't much pay attention to price.

Yakk 06-10-2004 10:31 AM

I'll do it in USD.
1) University Education (tuition): 16,000$ (8 terms @ 1600-2400-odd$/term)
2) 2.5 week European/Atlantic vacation: 2,500$-ish
3) Car: 1,600$ or 2,400$ (forgot) -- Damn thing is still running. ;)

I assume we should only count consumer goods, not investments?

majik_6 06-10-2004 10:45 AM

My guitars: probably about $3,000
1992 Chevy S10- $5200 (I was 15, and had a little "help")
All the aftermarket/custom stuff I've put on/under/inside of the (now immobile) S10: $10,000-12,000

In my case I'm also including lost wages, and other expenses that occurred while going to college. Books and tuition comprised about $18,000 of that total.

BonesCPA 06-10-2004 10:56 AM

1. Renovation to house
2. House
3. Wedding

(Yes the renovation cost more than the original purchase - probably 50% more only four years after original purchase. I need lots of room.)

Halx 06-10-2004 11:08 AM

2004 Acura TL - $35,000
2002 Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe - $27,000
12" Sony Vaio Laptop - $1800

Considering that I sold my honda, I'm realizing that my laptop is the second most expensive thing that I own and I dont even treat it that well.

kazoo 06-10-2004 11:46 AM

House 2
House 1
Divorce

I should have just let her live with me. Then I could have spent my money on some something worthwhile, like booze and old firetrucks.

todd 06-10-2004 12:29 PM

College education (once it's over): $63,000
Car: 8,000
Computer: 1,500

choskins 06-10-2004 12:38 PM

1) My house
2) Rental House
3) Rental House
and so on.

I did not include my ex-wife, as I am still making payments on that.

grumpyolddude 06-10-2004 01:38 PM

A wedding ring: it's cost me every dime I could earn for the past 25 years, and on into the forseeable future.

kurtisj 06-10-2004 01:46 PM

penile implants -$3,150
cock ring -$43
the look on my wifes face when i whip out my 14 inch pierced cock on our honeymoon.....priceless:)

Well, there were the intial payments during the gestation period and the payment to the hospital. Then there was feeding and care, shelter, clothing, ballet, cheerleading, trips to Europe and modeling school, transportation, proms, vacations, etc.

I didn't buy them outright but they are by far the most expensive things I have undertaken to support.

Of course, I would do it again in a heartbeat. :)
