I have to go with the one that had more of an impact on me. Though ROTK is great, I felt SW did more for me. Very close though.

LOTR will always be number 1 in my books!

LOTR is one of my most favoritest works of literature ever, and the movies were spectacular, but STAR WARS has influenced every Sci-Fi movie made since, and all on a pretty low budget.

I went with LOTR for the following reason. They are both incredible films. Both will / have had tremendous impact on their genre. The thing of it is, Star Wars has had time to develop into the phenom that it currently is. 20 years down the road, LOTR could be even bigger. It's impossible to say at this point. So from a personal standpoint and forgetting about what impact these films could have / have had on the industry I will say that LOTR was to me the better film. But this was a close one.

I HATED LotR. Most boring movies ever! Long Live Starwars! DEAD EVEN! GOGO SW POWER!

... I prefer ROTK, it made me care about the characters much more. It will age well, too, Star Wars is sort of cheezy these days, especially with those horrible scene-segues.

Gotta go with the original. Sure it may be dated 25 years later, but does that mean it loses it's imprortance? Of course not. Did the Godfather loose it's quality when Star Wars came along? Of course not. I am biased based on my age, since the pleasures of your youth are always better (we almost always) more important in your memory than of the present.

As soon as you remember you are judging JUST Star Wars episode iv and not all three of the original star wars against ROTK it is a lot easier to choose ROTK.

I voted for Star Wars because of the Lucas ingenuity he brought to space travel and sci fi creativity. The original Star Wars was such a fresh look at an old subject and with the limited technology of that era Lucas was able to pull off an amazing blockbuster feat of film making.
