Vader the badass ended in Empire. Vader the redeemed was in ROTJ, and that was it!
Maybe he'll surface in Episode III but I won't hold my breath. I voted Star Wars, mainly because I love it so much, but also 'cause I haven't seen ROTK yet.

I know this is over, but I just saw it and wanted to rub it in.
Take your big bad Sauron (only seen for a few seconds on a battlefield and then getting his finger cut off, unless you count an image of his eye that was a shameless copy of the cartoon and not at all how I envisioned it when I first read the books) and all the gay little hobbits laughing and jumping around, michael-jacksonesque on the bed with their gay wizard, and compare it to the greatest opening in the history of moviemaking, as the Star Destroyer takes over the whole screen chasing the rebel ship. This is followed by Vader walking calmly through the blaster-singed air, and the dialogue I will always remember, because I played it over and over again on my Fisher-Price record player: -Gasp- "a diplomatic mission" -Wheeze, Gasp- "If this is a consular ship, wheeeere is the ambassador? -Choke, Crunch- "Commander tear this ship apart until you've found those plans, and bring me the passengers, I want them alive!" |

Star Wars, always (except Return of the Jedi). Return of the King was a terrible movie.
I base this on the fact that I REALLY had to go to the bathroom since about 10 minutes into it, and the only time I didn't feel the need to goto the bathroom was when the movie was good, needless to say, that feeling only lasted a total of maybe 10 minutes. Way too much hype + people believing it = making it seem like it's better than it really is. While Star Wars, on the other hand, pwns.

I fail to see why the last film in a trilogy would go up against the first film in a different trilogy. If you want to talk about each trilogy as a whole, then LotR would win for me, because it left me on a total high.
