The Case:
Against the recommendations of her family and friends, an elderly woman begins an unusual diet. Her menu includes a variety of foods, but ultimately she eats something that kills her.

The Mystery:
What was the first item of the diet and what was the last?

The phrase 'her menu includes a variety of foods" implies that she is eating something. There aren't very many kinds of nothing. Micah's nailed it.
