The 30 Second Mystery 33 - What?
 

There are four categories: Who, What, Where and Why. Some will be easy, some not. I have as many as six clues to help you along, which I'll supply as needed.

Please limit yourself to one guess, and another guess for each clue I supply. No questions asking for help or hints are allowed. Partially correct answers won't be acknowledged.

Wild guesses and comments are fine. In fact, they can add to the mystery and are fun to read.

The Case:
A man dressed in blue has a gun in one hand and a sword in the other. He fights and kills fellow citizens in a region of the country he has never seen before. He is never arrested, returns home, and lives the rest of his life with a clear conscience.

The Mystery:
What is the man's occupation and in what year did he return home?

He was a Union Soldier in the American Civil War. He returned home in 1865.
