The first one was taken circa early 1900's...They were steel workers on lunchbreak somewhere in New York City, on some skyscraper....I think they were in NYC...not 100% though...

The second one are two insane people flirting with certain demise.

Also keep in mind that that second image is shot with a very wide angle lense, probably on the order of 14mm or so. Lenses like that distort distances and make them seem longer--the bottom of that tower they are on is probably 150 feet below them, but it looks like it goes on for hundreds and hundreds of feet before it hits the skyscraper it is resting on.

still, that's 150 feet above the very tall buildings below them! That's pretty damn high! Those guys have a lot of balls to just hang from the side of an unfinished skyscraper like that. I wonder how much you get paid for that...

if I am not mistaken, that second pic is on top of the Empire State Building. There is a satellite(?) tower up there that occasionally needs adjusting. Those guys are two of the maybe half a dozen in the world with both the balls and the technical know-how to go up and do that work. BTW, they are not just hanging on with one hand. They are, of course, using some kind of safety strap system.

I saw all this info on a tv news episode one time. I cant be sure, but I think this pic is showing the same two guys that I saw on tv. If that is the empire state bldg, then they are about 2000 feet above ground, give or take.

seriously though...that job, building skyscrapers, or even washing windows once it's built is craaaazy, i'm not afraid of heights or anything, *jumped off a 50 ft waterfall in the middle of September* but just swingin and knowing a harness and rope is keepin me secure....takes a lot of faith..

The guys in the second pic are wearing harnesses, you can see the orange strap over the shoulder of the guy on our right. If they weren't, OSHA would give their company a big spanking.
I used to install antenna panels on cell towers and the liability insurance cost about 65% of the per hour rate we charged. Highest I ever got was only 500 ft. Guys on broadcast towers often get up to 1500 ft, they say the towers sway alot. Anything over 60 ft is terminal in most cases.

I thought she was hitting him with whatever's in her hand. Considering what his left hand seems to be grabbing, seems logical (if stoopid considering his precarious position)

Dunno, I just found this pic on the net and posted it here to see who'd even notice the oddity, I'm not the orig artist.

That is part of a series of pictures. The others show soem of these guys sleeping on the beams and stuff. OSHA was not around to tell these guys they could hurt themselves.
