What proof can you give me that you aren't dreaming right now?

Well? How do you know this isn't a big dream? You are a nerd, so what else would you dream about? There have been cases of thought, pain, and nearly everything in dreams. So, tell me how you know you aren't dreaming?

hint: You would have two lives

Loui 11-03-2003 04:27 PM

um, because if i were then i wouldnt be dreaming someone was asking me a stupid question... unless you were naked.

YzermanS19 11-03-2003 04:48 PM

I think my signature answers that.

sailor 11-03-2003 04:49 PM

I dont. But it doesnt really matter to me. I could be dreaming, I could be plugged into The Matrix, whatever... I have no way of knowing that Im not, so Im just going to live my life.

KWSN 11-03-2003 09:48 PM

well..... not to give it away but there IS an actual answer....

Terresque you might have wanted to post this in Paranoia if you wanted more serious responses but.... meh

lyxo 11-03-2003 09:57 PM

it's actually how you define reality

What I experience now is reality.

My dreams restrict my thought to certain boundaries that I am not aware of at the time, but am aware of when I wake up.

Loup 11-04-2003 07:37 AM

Because when I masterbated 15 minutes ago I didn't wake up in a wet spot.

Peetster 11-04-2003 07:49 AM

When I dream, I ALWAYS know it is a dream.

I am not experiencing that feeling.

Therefore, I am not dreaming.

rockogre 11-04-2003 07:57 AM

I know I am not dreaming because I am always better looking than this when I'm dreaming.

Checked the mirror, confirmed that I am indeed awake. Too much reality for dreams.

Possibly having continuous nightmare. Will get back to you.

Snoogans 11-04-2003 08:20 AM

my dreams aren't this boring

You're close with the reality thing. Keep brainstorming on that.

crayzeeredhead 11-04-2003 09:47 AM

okay in my opinion reality can't be controled and dreams can!! what i mean is with pratice people can control the flow and background of some dreams! on top of that dreams are random occurances often jumping from one scene to the next!!
Reality is uncontrollable! Meaning that I can't think I am gonna win a million dollars and it happens, although i would probably sit on my arse until the money wasa delivered UPS to my front door causing me to lose my job and my children to starve!!

Eh, that is true, but if you want to you can control your own fate and reality as well. Good try though.

Hint...: Pick up where you left off...

Fremen 11-05-2003 09:02 PM

I'm not dreaming because if I were, I'd be touching Alyssa Milanos' hiney.
(touch the hiney, touch the hiney!)

Darth_Kettch 11-06-2003 03:28 PM

I'm not dreaming because I successfully counted all my fingers, and they added up to 10.

(try counting how many fingers you have the next time you're aware that you're dreaming!)

Arc101 11-06-2003 03:38 PM

Wait, no a beautiful red head hasn't just walked into the room in a maids outfit and given me a blow job so unfortunately this is reality.

TerresqueÜ 11-06-2003 06:46 PM

Ach!

Hint, consecutiveness of your dreams vs the consecutiveness of your real life.

Midnight_Son 11-06-2003 07:04 PM

I can look at a clock......then look away, then look back and it still looks the same. That's how I know I'm not dreaming.......sound foolish? try it in your next dream, if you can.

edit: don't do with a digital....find a damn real one, with hands!

Neato 11-06-2003 11:39 PM

In dreams light switches never work, the hands on a clock never stay the same after looking at them a second time, and text never stays the same after looking at them a second time.
But then again who is to say that those arent only true in a dream within a dream?

Jam 11-06-2003 11:48 PM

i know its not a dream cause im not at work... so sad.. all my recent dreams have been at work... it actually confused me for 2 days as to wether or not my boss told me to do something but i couldnt ask him because i didnt want him to think i was crazy

Shauk 11-06-2003 11:49 PM

reminds me of the movie "Waking life"

I like it when movies fuck with your head like that.

YzermanS19 11-07-2003 05:19 PM

Just give me the answer.

I've read through this entire thing and I honestly can't say that there is any true answer. Nothing is impossible in dreams. I know for a fact I can turn on and off light switches. I can look at a clock and it remains the same. I can read in dream.

Why? I've trained myself to dream lucidly....I can hold my own world together in dream, and It won't fall apart.

I have even asked people who they were and what it felt like to be a character in my dream. They give me a definite and exact response (The most interesting of these people was from Tulsa, Oklahoma, was out walking his dog, and didn't even understand why It was necessarily my dream).

Waking Life was a big influence....I could lucid dream before I saw the movie, but it gave me a lot of ideas.

I'm sure the answer is obvious, but all the reasons given by other people aren't a factor. I can do most anything in my dreams.

empu 11-07-2003 10:15 PM

If I'm dreaming right now then that would imply I'm asleep in the non-dream reality. Unless, of course, the memory that there is such a thing as "sleep" is itself something my mind fabricated as part of this elaborate dream. In fact even the concept of dreaming itself is certainly a dream-creation, which is patently impossible due to inherent circularity. Since impossible things can't exist in reality, I must be dreaming right now. QED.

Four Fingers 11-08-2003 07:07 AM

Easy. Study something new and complicated. Something you know you couldn't have thought up yourself.

Study mathematics for 3 years in university. You can tell that the theorems are true because you can prove them mathematicially. And there's no way you just dreamt it all, because it'd take 2000 years and 50 geniuses to come up with this shit.

You're close with the continuity of time.

Hint: There would be two parallel lives if you were dreaming right now.

Shpoop 11-08-2003 12:26 PM

i think hes looking for kill yourself, since you can never, ever die in your dream...

however, what if once you did that, you woke up, and thought you had dreamt all of the deaths of your loved ones, etc

Well, that's totally untrue. I've died in dreams. It's ratehr easy if you're a lucid dreamer. Which I generally am not, but yes you can die in dreams.

Mr. Spacemonkey 11-08-2003 05:14 PM

Please just give me the answer. I think my heads going to explode! Unless of course there is no answer. But then that would just make this whole thread nonsense.
