Jebus

Where did this word come from? I've seen it all over the TFP, but I have no idea why it's so popular. Can someone fill me in?

bernadette 10-13-2003 08:35 AM

oh gawd. fooking aye. shite. biotch. mutha ficker. etc.

jebus, i believe falls directly in line with the above almost cuss words. well, pretty much they're the same w/o the correct spelling, sometimes used to throw off filtering of such language.

Midnight_Son 10-13-2003 08:36 AM

and perhaps some one could explain "ASTA!" also

bernadette 10-13-2003 08:37 AM

K-wise *has* explained ASTA!

hasta la vista!

Miekle 10-13-2003 08:39 AM

God I wish I could remember I know it came out of a movie or cartoon. I would like to say it was Aqua Teen Hunger force but I don't think that was it. For some reason I can just see Meatwad saying sweet jebus.

Can you explain why Ashton posts in red text?
You have all the answers!

Hail GH! sorry, i'm not sure about that one.

perhaps he just likes red text? or maybe it is a means to make it easier to find his own posts? if he has mentioned his reasoning previously, i have missed it.

and... i apologize if i am coming off as a big fat know-it-all today. clearly & most certainly, i do not have all the answers. in fact, i have very few answers in reality.

mugs & dishes,
bernadette

It is his signature, I guess. Mine is  at the end of every post. Yours is to hail to the memerb(s) you are replying to. Ashton's is to post in all red text. K-wise's is "Asta!!" as we all know. I suppose it is somewhat of a TFP fashion thing. We cannot wear clothes in TFP (we are all naked), but we can dress up our posts!

Oh, and it's Jeebus, not "Jebus". It came from that Simpsons' episode that everyone but me has seen, where Homer Simpson proclaims aloud "I don't even believe in Jeebus... save me Jeebus!"

zenmaster10665 10-13-2003 10:58 AM

It is from a Simpsons episode, as far as I knows it!

Stiltzkin is right on both parts. The word "Jeebus" comes from a Simpsons episode, and Ashton's been using red text since before I was a member here. I can't ever remember seeing a post of his that didn't have red text.

Midlandmadman 10-13-2003 11:15 AM

Jeebus.......... this word cracks me up!!!!!!!

Snoogans 10-13-2003 11:41 AM

I too have managed to miss the Simpson episode, I thought it was from the Family Guy episode "Holy crap".

"heh, you ever noticed this? on page 375 it says Jebus" "Supposed to be Jesus, right?"

lordjeebus 10-13-2003 12:17 PM

The origin of the "jeebus" portion of my moniker predates the Simpsons episode in 2000 that made it famous.

I've been using it as a BBS handle since 1995 or so, and it's not like I invented it -- I heard it in use prior to that.

bernadette 10-13-2003 02:13 PM

praise thee lordjeebus ;)

that betty white is a real hard-ass who would have guessed...

personal favourite moment of that ep, Rev Lovejoy sneaking homer out of the church in a burlap bag, and telling the mob he's just "taking children's letters to god to the dump." classic
