Kinda lame, it's all so academically correct. Back in the days we used to teach unwitting foreigners the most insane phrases and alter the meaning ever so slightly. I know it's the oldest trick in the book, but hell, it's TRADITION. BTW Suviko we call it salt licorice (not that it matters). Muuten, olisi tosi kiva viihdoinkin tavatta kun muut TFPlaiset tulevat Helsinkiin!

Nobody actually says salted liquorice. Sure, it says so in some label text maybe, but all foreigners will learn to call it salmiac as soon as they get into contact with it. One american guest of honor is whining nowdays that he can't get salmiac shots ingredients in the States (crush salmiac candy, add to bottle of vodka untill you got really thick liqueur-like stuff, drink from shot glasses).

My BF is not in town in the upcoming weekend and I could sleep on the sofa and let Cynthetique & his wife sleep in our bed for their stay in Helsinki if they can handle sleeping on a futon bed and accept 54 m^2 student apartment accomodation. :) Got sauna evening and barhopping planned for Friday and my friend's bday on Saturday, dunno if they wanna take part in those. We could get all the finn-TFPers to come to some bar or dine in a restaurant or something, what people would prefer?

Ekki Lakkris, (No Licorice) was one of the fist Icelandic phrases I learned to speak.

Ok. So what type of food and what price range?

We got one of the finest Russian restaurants in the World called Saslik, I've been there twice and like that place. It's freguented by diplomats, situated in area with embassies and there's few troubadours singing & playing russian folk songs (most nights). You can have caviar, bear or reindeer.

Now, here I have never been. First ever Finnish restaurant to get Michelin's **. That kinda shows in the prices, but I am truely curious about the place. :)

Then there's restaurant called Lappi (Lapland). They also got caviar & reindeer etc. but the food is a bit cheaper. I haven't been there, friends who've been there with foreigners said it's good, but Saslik is the favorite.

Zetor is named after a tractor company. Prices are decent and this is laid back place. Review from one website: "A positively unique interior complete with tractors, shovels, milk cans from the Finnish countryside; there is even a sauna! In a way the restaurant is a joke, but the food is good and prices reasonable. In the evenings the place looks more like a barn dance, but in the rock spirit."

These are the places for local "Experiences", or then there's Japanese/Italian/TexMex/whatever, but those you can get back home too.

I'm double checking the itinerary... I know that we are to check out of the resort in Ahatari on Saturday Oct. 18 and then we fly out I beleive on Sunday. I'm double checking on leaving Ahatari on Friday and staying with BuDDaH Friday night and/or Saturday...

It's always nice to have a handy phrase when travelling. I don't know how handy these are but they are interesting.
