actually, after rethinking this and sounding it out in my head some more, I say it more in line with what dictionary.com suggests:

kar-uh-muhl

which when sounding out, sounds different and more natural than the 2 choices haha

camel
-^Ra (insert)
= ca-ra-mel ... exactly as it should be pronounced (save for a shift in syllable stress, which the first syllable should carry throughout)
