"Suppulent" isn't a word...

...but it should be.

Any other not-words that deserve consideration for word-dom?

telekinetic 03-13-2009 10:23 AM

Verbing

Truthiness (although that kind of exists now)

Vlogger--oh wait you mean words that don't exist and should, not words that shouldn't exist and do.

BadNick 03-13-2009 10:25 AM

I hate to be the overly obvious one, but I'd put Fugly on that list.

:)

I have a confession to make--I just thought "suppulent" was the perfect word to describe bewbs.

BadNick 03-13-2009 11:44 AM

bewbs are too perfect for just a one word description, but suppulent is so...organically sensual sounding that it's just right. What about the left one? ...I'm making this up as we go along...how about firmorbish:

She had two of the most suppulent, firmorbish bewbs I've seen in the last hour.

Baraka_Guru 03-13-2009 12:14 PM

I'm admirizing the suppulence of this thread.

telekinetic 03-13-2009 12:39 PM

Not to be a wet blanket, but aren't most parsable pseudo-neologisms either just uncommon prefixes and suffixes or portmanteau? Everything in this thread is portmanteau.

kramus 03-13-2009 01:01 PM

A local radio show had/has a feature where people write in nominations for new words for things not yet worded.

My lady likes the word they came up with for that first burst of cold water when you turn on the shower - "forespray".

Another one she has mentioned from the radio show is for those tunes that get stuck in your head - "aneurythms".

She has a book of them lying around I should look at. Is it cheating to look up non-existent words to contribute to a thread of un-words? Would you find them in an antithesaurus?

roachboy 03-13-2009 01:05 PM

i like how many things are stuffed into the word portmanteau.

So, I'm checking out that site and they have a list of states that have laws about first cousin marrying. Contrary to stereotype, most of the southern states have bans against cousin to cousin hitching but the northeast states are very liberal. So, in honor of our interfamilial hooking up allowances, I have come up with.... (drum roll, please)

Fuzzles: those really light foamy bubbles you get after pounding a crisp mountain of inflated bubble bath into submission.

And a smink would have to be slim person who moves around very quietly, quite possibly wearing glasses and an unreadable expression. Actually, I think this might be a Swedish word. To the dictionary!

Yes indeed: smink would be "make-up; rouge; grease paint". Are there any rules about appropriating words from other languages and redefining them? (Seriously though- smink should definitely have an English usage, and possibly more than one! :D)
