Iceberg B-15 was the largest iceberg in the world (measuring about 11,000 square kilometers) when it broke away from Western Antarctica’s Ross Ice Shelf in March 2000. A sad twist of fate: The B15 iceberg killed millions of penguins when it came off the mainland in March of 2000 and blocked the animals' access to the open sea. Even today, tens of thousands of penguin chicks face starvation because their parents have limited access to food from the open sea.
