Leto, you got it! I am in the Mariana Trench. So it' back to you.
The Japanese connection was just because I saw this as I was checking out M.T. facts: "...In March of 1995, the Japanese unmanned submarine Kaiko was used to conduct further research deep within the Mariana Trench. The Kaiko is a sophisticated vessel with a highly accurate positioning system, allowing scientists to gather important data without the need to endanger a human diver..." For a minute there I was checking "rules" for this game to see if I had to be in a "country" or someplace conventional like that since the Trench is sort of an odd place. Go Leto. |
wow. cool choice.
OKAY folks, Where the Hell Am I? |
I agree, good choice. Had me puzzled.
So north of 0 Lat? |
let me add the other...
Western Hemisphere? |
tully - yes
ssjtwizta - yes |
north america?
|
canada?
|
mexico?
|
does this place touch a major body of water?
|
pig - yes
Phil - why choose canada? (but yes) badnick - no ssjtwizta - yes I'm looking for more detail than a country or state or province name. |
Can you see a "Great Lake" from where you are?
|
No.
|
Pacific ocean?
|
No
(I'll be out for approx an hour long meeting - throw those guesses in!) |
Atlantic ocean?
|
Labrador Sea?
|
Tully: No
Little: No (had to look that one up...) |
are you in B.C.?
|
No I am not (sure would like to be though!)
|
Alberta?
|
Not Alberta. Your guess is cold. But not as cold as it needs to be.
|
ok, trying the other side of Canada even though it's colder:
Might you be in Nunavut? |
I am in Nunavut. But where, I wonder?
|
hmmm, while you're having fun watching the gorgeous northern lights show and still seeing walrus and polar bears playing in the icey waters, I'll try to guess where in Nunavut.
I'm "feeling" Baffin and since I like saying this word, I'll pick that little island off the coast of Baffin called Qikiqtarjuaq ...can they squeeze any more q's into that name, and not a u in sight? Are you on Qikiqtarjuaq? |
Whale Cove...or to be more adventurous...Kugluktuk? lol that's a good name :p
|
The name of this place has far fewer letters than Qikiqtarjuaq and Kugluktuk.
so no & no, and no to Whale Cove as well. I don't think that polar bears venture to this place, and its vigilant inhabitants must surely look down their noses at the softy southerners of Baffin Island. |
ellesmere island?
|
On the right Island, what is the town?
|
Good guess, uncle phil.
I'll say Eureka since it's the second northernmost settlement in the world. Are you in Eureka? Ellesmere Island bumblebee trivia: Ellesmere Island is noted as being the northernmost occurrence of eusocial insects; specifically, the bumblebee Bombus polaris. Interestingly, there is a second species of bumblebee occurring there, Bombus hyperboreus, which is a parasite in the nests of B. polaris. |
sverdrup?
|
Badnick, why only go half measures? 2nd? noooo
Phil, keep those graspy little fingers of the Norse (and Danes while I'm at it) off of our land! No, it's not the Sverdrup islands I'm heading home, if you are vigilant enough to get it, proceed! I'll check in an hour or so. |
...story of my life
OK, then it is probably Alert ...in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut Canada. Alert is the northernmost permanently inhabited place in the world. Are you in Alert? |
I am, in fact, in Alert (you were vigilant for the clues).
I think its current population is 75. But they're tough buggers (Canadian military types) |
Cool, I'm even learning more geography in this thread.
OK, here we go again. Where in the World am I? |
Ok, so let's start. West of the Prime Meridian?
|
north of the equator?
|
pig: no
up: no |
australia?
|
not australia
|
africa?
