between katie and the "farther north" thing, i thought you meant yap, but that's in the northern hemi...and i'd heard of mauritius and seychelles before from when i collected stamps, but diego garcia never entered my mind...

I was looking through my old photo's for a picture of a sign on Boigu. I came across that photo of the wrecked PBY on DG. Earlier on my news page there was a story of two British guys who'd been arrested in the waters off Diego Gracia protesting. The story had a picture of that plane, in much worse shape. Between those two things and my avatar it seemed like a natural choice for me.

Edit: forgot to add...

DG is one of 33 emergency landing sites for the space shuttle, none of which have ever been used. (freaking long airstrip for a tiny atoll in the middle of no where!)

DG is one of 5 GPS control sites for the US military.
