I HATE THE BANJO!!!! Do you hate it too?
There is nothing I hate worse than the banjo or bluegrass hillbilly music. Is that your most hated thing too?
|
you must seriously be a rookie...
|
he could just be a serious rookie.........
|
surely you jest...
|
Isn't the world full of enough hate already?
|
"Squeal piggy, squeal"
|
I love banjo music and bluegrass music. Get me my fiddle Pa we gots some music to be a-playin' and some strings to be a-pluckin'
Check ma profieel if ye don't believe me. Doesn't like the banjo? What is this...a joke? |
I prefer electric banjo played with a wah-wah pedal. But that's just me.
P.S. How can you hate banjo more than bagpipes? Just wondering. |
I love the banjo, in spite of "duelling banjoes", and gave one to my son, the self-taught and not half bad, guitar player. He sounds good on it, too, and has yet to tell a tourist that he has purty lips.

When I think of the banjo I think of two things:

I simply can't abide intolerance!
Banjos is sweet... ESPECIALLY that extra string about halfway down the neck! |
it is a sweet instrument isn't it grump.......we use it on 2 or 3 tunes of ours and it just adds........something.
but that 5th string always messes me up so..........i let my buddy dial it in and I stick with the bass. |
They are sweet in the right hands, dangerous in the wrong ones. I haven't toyed with one in years... the neighbors are grateful!
|
How could you hate something Steve Martin plays so well?
banjo |
Bela Fleck is a genius!
|
As long as it's played well, it's a fun instrument.
|
Pickin' & a grinnin'
Hee-haw! |
On New Year's Eve in 1995, I played a featured banjo solo with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra.
Just take a few minutes to let that whole sentence wash over you a bit..... |
warrrreagl, we're going to need pictures. And a soundclip. Video would be good actually. :D
|

sweet phil..........i lived in Tahsis for a couple months awhile back......never got to see this dude but......he does have a nice instrument.
yeah you freaks can read into that as you may. |
You hate the banjo? Thats a damn shame! The banjo is glorious fun.
Have you seen Billy Connelly play the banjo? Fantastic! Happy four-and-a-half-strings, everyone. |
Banjo is perfectly fine. I don't seek it out but if it is playing in some muzak capacity I will live with the strange sounding notes.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Need I say more? |
/me is going to start "playing" kingston trio songs and, you know what...you guys will LOVE them...right, fly?
|
As already mentioned, but it is worth repeating, Bela Fleck is amazing.
For some reason, I don't even mind the bagpipes as much as most people. |
What are strange sounding notes? Sometimes they clang and sometimes they cling. The listening is the trick.

I love ukeleles..and the sound of the wind whistling
through my screen door.. Pass the banjo please |
The banjo is amazing!! It can be used for lots more that just "hillbilly music". One of my best friends owns one. I have a mandolin, I dont really know how to play it yet, but I do play the guitar.
|

dude, the mandolin freakin' sings eh? check our band out,(i think it's "lighter drug")we use mando and banjo for fillers.........love those sounds. |
"lighter drug" is just one of your many fine tunes, fly.
I'll have something for your ears soon! (no banjo, tho) |
I absolutely cannot stand the banjo.
|
Lighten up, Francis.
I've been there. Bluegrass used to get my back up. Not really the banjo's fault but it drew my ire, for a while. Then I heard Bela Fleck and thought, it isn't the banjo, it's the Bluegrass. Then I heard the Gourd's cover of Snoop Dogg's Gin N Juice, which isn't strictly speaking bluegrass, but gets pretty close, and the obligatory bluegrass song on each Phish album, and then I heard Hayseed Dixie's bluegrass covers of AC/DC and realized that it's like Yiddish - it just sounds irritating until you realize that there is something fundamentally amusing about it. Now, emo banjo I would probably still hate, but I can't even imagine what that would sound like (grey grass?) |

thanks grump........can't wait to hear it. |
