What's your favorite Tequila?
Okay, so I'm not a big drinker. Usually just vodka occasionaly, or a margarita, but I was at my friends the other day and he poured me a shot of 3 Generaciones from Sauza as soon as I had a sip I knew that we need to smoke a cigar to complement this excellent sipping tequila.
What Tequilas do you like to drink straight? |
Cuervo 1800 is what is normally found in my liquor cabinet. Not so much for sipping as it is used for making the best 100% premium long islands. I find that I can make a "super premium" long island at home for about the same cost as cheap schleck out at a club. Pearl Vodka, Bacardi white rum, Curvo 1800, Bombay Sapphire or Tanqueray No. 10 Gin, Cointreau Triple Sec, Ocean Spray all natural sour mix, and of course a dash of Coke Classic for color. If mixed correctly it actually tastes quite a bit like iced tea =)

There's Tequila for shots, and tequilla for margaritas -- but... there's tequilla for sippin' - and if I'm sippin' - then it's gotta be
Herradura Seleccion Suprema Muy Añejo Tequila. (I had to copy that from the bottle) It's amazing stuff... |
The one that's left in the bottle and comes nowhere near my mouth...
:) Mr Mephisto |
umm none. I used to drink it alot..but due to an alcohol poisoning experience just the smell of it makes me sick now..
|
i used to drink Monte Alban Mezcal quite often...best i've had...not technically tequilla but very good
|
Only Tequila I ever had was some cheapo quasi-Mexican stuff that an acquantance had, and they invited me in their dorm room for a few shots. I'm a social drinker, so I don't turn down much, just never go overboard. Drank the stuff straight, not too bad in shot form. Least that's what I thought, the other two people had salt and limes ready for a moment's notice.

What time is happy hour at your place? :D |
Monte Alban Mezcal, eat the worm!
|
All of them. :D
Colson: I've been told by numerous people that no tequilas have worms in them. It's actually a different type of drink that has a worm in it. |
it is, tequila doesnt have worms :)
http://www.mezcal.com/worms.html In 25 years we have never met a palenquero who has offered a sip of his mezcal with: a Worm, a Lime or Salt. In our experience the only use of the worm besides a marketing gimmick is to mask the chemical taste of poorly produced mezcal. Mezcal is not technically tequila.. its not made from the BLUE AGAVE plant.. its like not all brandy is cognac.. not all mezcal is tequila I like Sauza Tequila Reposado Hornitos or 1800 silver.. thats it otherwise its total crap. |
my whole family is addicted to Tarantula Azul tequila
every family get together 3 or 4 bottles get guzzled down before dinner is served and we have a fairly smallish family |
Jose Cuervo 1800 Añejo Tequila, or any Cabo Wabo (created by Sammy Hagar, haha) brand.
|
I used to start my drinking nights with a shot of Cuervo 1800. One night in college a couple of years back some of my buddies and I went to the ABC/Jax down the road and went looking for something new. Well, we stumbled upon a bottle of "Mezcal" which had the little worm at the bottom of the bottle, and we bought it for the "coolness" factor. Bad.. Baaaad Idea..
Needless to say I haven’t been able to drink tequila since. Even a sip of a Margarita sends shivers down my spine. |
Never had tequila straight until last month; went to Mexico and had some that was made at a small distillery there. The regular agave stuff tasted like gasoline, the blue agave stuff was pretty good. Don't remember the name of it though.
|
I like Don Julio for sippin. Mezcal for getting ridiculously drunk.
|
Patron Tequila is the absolute best tequila I've ever drank. I rarely drink and I never crave drinking but in the past, I've found myself craving Patron. At bars, I slowly sip my shots so I enjoy every ounce of it. It's also killer in margaritas.
|
The difference between Mezcal and tequila:
Technically, tequila is a form of mezcal, the difference aside from a slight differences in the processing and requirements to what the final product must consist of the major difference is location. Like bourbon is technically whiskey, the difference is bourbon is distilled in Bourbon Co. Kentucky. This is more commonly know in the wine making business, where region is why a particular wine has its name (i.e. champaign or chianti) and not the grape that the wine is made from. The same is true for mezcal: Tequila is made in the state of Jalisco and Mezcal is made in the state of Oaxaca. |
I love Patron, great Tequila. I also like Tres Generaciones.
|
I've heard that Albertson's gold Tequila is a decent tequila. I'm not a big tequila fan, it all tastes the same to me.

I agree wholeheartedly. However, I don't drink tequila at home, and at bars, Patron can be a little expensive. |
In the last year I've finally been able to drink tequila without shuddering/vomiting immediately. We usually buy a good bottle of tequila for Cinco de Mayo and make premium margaritas with it. I can't remember what we got last Cinco de Mayo...it was REALLY good, let's put it that way...It certainly did the trick and tasted great.
|
I agree with Patron. I have had the Silver and the Anejo. Don't ask me why, but when I smelled the Anejo, I could swear I was smelling wet leather. I guess it's like a wine snob, (I mean enthusiast) saying they can smell so many different things in a wine. The Patron goes down smooth and easy, DO NOT make a margarita with it.
I usually find Patron Silver in a gift box that includes a bottle of Citron (another liquer similar to Tripel Sec, only MUCH better) for about $40. Considering the Patron is usually more than $40, it's like getting a $20+ of Citron for free. Just be sure to pick up some Jose Cuervo de Crappo for mixing! |
As a batender in La Jolla in the '80's, I was turned on to Sauza Commeritivo(sp) by "old lady Sauza" herself as a Christmas present. Still the tequila of choice.
|
*hugs his handle of patron silver*
mmm i love patron... jose silver is great for mixing into margaritas or whatever.... tequila is my fav hard liqour |

The absolute best tequila is Chinaco. If you haven't had it, please please try some. |
Never liked the stuff straight til my brother introduced me to Cabo Wabo Reposado. It's ridiculously expensive but good, smooth sippin' tequila.
|
I have drank so many brands of tequilla, mostly the cheap brands or Cuervo, but Patron, Sauza hornitos, and El Tesoro are my favorites. I get mine from Mexico everytime my parents go down there or when I go down there.
|
Any variety of Cuervo.
