I've got a similar fruit-based salad, it goes a little something like this :
Green Papaya Salad Dressing 2 Cloves of Garlic, pressed 1/3 cup Fresh Lime Juice 3 Tablespoons Asian Fish Sauce (or use Rice Vinegar +Salt) 1 Tablespoon + 1 Teaspoon Sugar Salad 2 Small Finely chopped Red or Green Chiles 4 cups Green Papaya, peeled, seeded + shredded 2 Carrots, shredded 2/3 cup Fresh Cilantro, coarsely chopped 4 Tablespoons Crushed, Roasted Peanuts. Make the dressing in a large bowl first, then add the ingredients and toss well. |
I like:
spinach leaves cold canned pear halves toasted pecans (or walnuts) with a rice vinegar and olive oil |
hands down the best salad i have ever tasted was made by the chefs assistant at my school.
it was a cucumber salad and it was fuckin wicked. you can put pretty much anything in as long as it compliments the cucmber taste. but what makes it is the dill and cucumber together with the yogourt. sliced cucumber a whole bunch of roughly chopped flat leaf parsley plenty of dill. diced tomato a bit of fine diced shallot julienne carrots, celery thyme yogourt (plain , not the raspberry flavoured kind. whatever else you want to throw in :) mix it all together let it sit for 15-20 mins eat it. |
Everybody likes this salad. It's both healthy and hearty at the same time and has a nice mix of flavors.
Mixed salad greens (if your store doesn't sell them, get heads of different leaf lettuces (red, green, romaine, etc, wash them and tear leaves to appropriate size). Three ripe avocados Three-four ripe tomatoes One medium-sized white onion 1 or 2 cups of red grapes Dice the avocados into small chunks and slice the tomatoes into 1/2 or 1/4 slices depending on how big the tomatoes are. Cut the onion into thin slices and break them up. Mix everything, including the grapes. Chill for 1 or 2 hours, then serve with a good bleu cheese dressing. |
Here's a great tasting recipe for a chicken caesar salad:
1 boneless skinless chicken breast per person you want to serve olive oil dark soy sauce (I use kikkoman's) a bag of caesar salad you can get at the grocery store, or make your own dried basil chopped garlic or garlic powder Trim the fat off the chicken, put into a bowl and pour olive oil and soy sauce in equal portions until the breasts are covered. Add black pepper and basil to taste, and a little garlic. I probably wouldn't use more than 2 cloves of fresh or a teaspoon of dried. Let that marinade in the fridge for about an hour, then put the chicken breasts in a hot pan. There is no need to oil the pan because the chicken already has oil on it. In the mean time, divide up the salad into however many bowls you'll need. When the chicken is done, chop up into bite sized pieces and put into salad bowls, dress with croutons, parmesean cheese, and caesar dressing. Serve immediately. |
