Any one else like the bread loaf ends?
I love the bread loaf ends. Any one else with me on this one, or am I just wierd? ;)
You're weird, I cant stand the ends :p
If you're talking about the ends of a loaf of French or Italian bread that's baked fresh in the store, I'll definitely agree. If it's just from a regular loaf of white bread, those always get thrown in garbage.
I must be weird then, I love the ends of the bread, especially toasted --or open faced grilled cheese sandwiches. It just seems to have more taste than the regular bread
It makes toast crunchier, ile give it that. But it's usually to small to be paired with a regular piece of bread for a sandwich. So I usually just toss it.
Yes on good, homemade bread. No on other kinda of store bought bread.
Not only do I not like the end pieces, I don't even like the pieces that are right next to them. I'll eat them if i have to but they are mishappen and make a smaller sandwich. I know, I'm weird...
I like em pretty good, but I don't eat them (we always called them heels) because they kind of keep the rest of the loaf from getting stale when its in the bag.
Well, since I seem to be pretty much on my own on this one, I'd appreciate it you you all could just mail 'em to me ;)
i love them, plus, they have the most nutritional value :)
on the ohter hand, I HATE< HATE HATE store bought white bread. I'll only eat it toasted if i have to. |
Love them. Best part. French or otherwise.
On good bread, certainly: sourgdough, french or franchese, or a good whole-wheat or nine-grain bread.
If I've got a loaf-end from a french loaf and it's gotten tough, I'll nuke it in the micro for 20 seconds or so. That usually softens it up nicely. |
Yucky. Not me. I like the nice soft bready insides.
That sounds gross. Sorry. :( |
i love the ends.
they are great... and if you don't like the ends of white bread you can always put them reverse end side into the sandwhich and you'll probably never know. |
I'm waiting patiently for someone to design a loaf of bread with three heels :)
tangent: "...best thing since sliced bread..." Phooey, I say! I prefer to slice my own bread. |
I love the crust of bread. But I don't think I've eaten a loaf-style piece of bread for about a year.
they don't bother me
Yes, but it totally depends on the type of bread. A sourdough, or italian, or french. Fresh bakes is soooo much better. No wonder bread for me.
Mmmmm, I definitely love the ends. (We call them 'heels' too, which sounds rather unappetizing.)
When getting a sub/hoagie, I am always dissapointed when they cut off the ends. Many nights I have schemed to steal the accumulated bread ends they toss aside. (okay, not really, but it may come to that someday.) You can mail me the ends. (PS: If they're moldy, send them to EVIDENT) ;) |
The crust is the best part of the bread. That's where all the psychoactive chemicals migrate to.
Rye, wheat, foreign (french, italian, vienna) but NEVER white. Raise your glasses. A TOAST! to crunchy bread! |
nah, not so much.
You're very strange. I can't stand the bread ends.
I love bread ends, especially ones on fresh french breads...nice and chewy... <3 :D
They're good, because you get the flavour of the outside of the loaf, plus I feel as if i'm wasting the other side if it's just a normal slice.
Usually if I am at someone else's house preparing some food, I take the end as a service to them, because most people are picky about it. |
i think bread ends are great, but then again i eat anything that doesn't eat me first
The ends of the loaves are awesome, but you can also use the sliced ends as folded 1/2 sandwiches that don't break. As the the wife says " a heel for a heel". Oh well, still like them.
how can people say that they don't like them? OK, maybe not for sandwiches, but they are great for dipping in soups, sauces and gravy. Gimme a nice red gravy, with meatballs, saugages, and a pork chop simmering for a few hours, then a bread heel to dip in and I'm in heaven.
I prefer a nice crusty italian bread, or french. Store bought plain white is OK, but not my preference. |
My vote has to go with the people that like them on everything but store bought white bread...when I go out to a resturant that gives you loaves of bread with your meal my friends always cut the ends off first and give them to me!
I like 'em. Specially as yankeefatboy said, for half sandwiches
i like the ends of stuff.
I specifically use them first. I had a heel sandwich today as a matter of fact. :D
I always eat them, they make fine sandwiches when paired with the piece next to them.
and it has be (preferrably) grain or wheat bread. White bread is naaaaasty shit that has no place in my residence. |
Bread butts are the best for dipping! doesn't really matter what you dip it in, but I prefer homemade spaghetti sauce, while it's still cooking.
yum... |
Where I live they make a corned beef sandwich with swiss and russian between the ends.
To Die For. |
Ends on french bread are awesome. Otherwise, nah.
...
Ends are my favorite...
for some reason I thought of this thread this morning - I don't know why...

The butts of the loaf, as I call them, are an acquired taste. I love them when I'm in the mood.

Nothing wrong with the"Butt" ends, most of all the ends from french bread.. Oh yea!!!!!
I love them! Wifey can't stand them. Sheesh. It's still bread.
