Fake pizza in 10 minutes

I was craving pizza today, but I'm too poor to buy real pizza so I decided to improvise... It came out ok.

Makes 2 piece:

take two pieces of bread. Put it in your toaster for 5 mintues or until it's very dark, and "toasty."
Take it out, and put tomato sauce on it. Then put cheese on it. Put it in the toaster for another 5 minutes, and voila, poor man's pizza. Didn't taste bad at all.

Sounds interesting. With the lack of food in this house, I'll have to give it a try sometime. Thanks for the idea.

That also works really well with an english muffin or even a bagel.

As for a lack of food in the house, I know what it's like. 5 years ago I actually lived off of ramen noodles and ketchup for two weeks. That was rough.

Yeah. You'd be surprised what tastes good whenever you have nothing to eat. Here are some more poor people recipes:
Ramen (of course)
Bagel sandwiches (put ANYTHING on them)
Casadeya (put ANYTHING in between, doesn't even have to have cheese.......all you need is flour tortillas. I put banana peppers and other odd items that were in the fridge on them)
Tuna salad with crackers (all you need is tuna and mayo, fuck the pickles and mustard or anything like that)
RC Cola (dark colas tend to fill you up REAL quick...give Chek a shot too....ultra cheap)
Popcorn (an entire bag will last you all day if need be)

I like to take pita bread (the big ones), and put some tomato sauce on it, cheese, and some veggies, and throw that in the oven at 400 degrees until the cheese is lightly browned. Basically a pizza on pita. Great snack.

yeah pita pizza is better then burnt toast pizza. but might be worth a try.. lol

But pita is expensive! I was at the grocery store before. For the price of 4 pitas, I could buy a loaf of bread. Plus I bought pitas once, and they went moldy in three days :(

Pizza toast! hehehe...that's one of my favorite snacks, except I pop it in the microwave for about 30 seconds after putting on the sauce & cheese.

Wouldn't that make the bread all soggy?

Empty_One 02-07-2004 04:00 PM

When I was a kid, my sister used to make that for me in the toaster oven. Of course, she used ketsup, with alot of seasnings, and american cheese.

Hell, I was seven, call it pizza, and I'll eat it.

Never tried it with a bagel but the english muffin is a sure hit. If you have young children, it's a safe and fun snack for them to experiment with.

Nope...just makes it a little softer, more pizza crust-ish.
(edit: I just noticed I'd typed "30 seconds"...more along the lines of 15-20 seconds)

Trader Joes pizza dough...it is something like $1.99 a pack and you can keep it in the freezer. I buy a few and then when the urge strikes, pull one out, roll it out, and make great pizza.

Plus, if you want to have some fun and look cool, you can learn to toss the dough...

Buy a pack of toast bread. And a jar of Dolmio (or make your own tomato sauce).
Line up all the slices on an oven shelf, put Dolmio on them, top with ham (if you're feeling rich) and cheese. Put in oven until the cheese turns golden.
This will make 15-20 kids very happy! :)
