Toast

I know what you're thinking. Toast? How hard is that to make. Not hard at all; but making great toast is something not easily done.

I was recently at a local BBQ place and with my dinner came this amazing, thick, crunchy yet soft toast. I looked something up quickly, and I found something about Texas Toast.

At any rate, does anyone have any true, delicious toast recipes/ideas? I don't mean popping it into the toaster and spreading jam on it - true toast. Any secret to this? That toast was fabulous.

you can by texas toast style bread at most grocerys. spread liberally with butter, dust with garlic powder, sprinkle on some thyme, sprinkle on some parmesian cheese, then toast under the broiler of your oven, or on a hot flat pan. if you do it in a pan you can do both sides, tastes twice as good.

even regular bread tasted tons better pan fried. Just melt some butter in the pan, drop the toast in, quickly turn it over to get the other side coated, then fry it up. Not quite as healthy, but much better taste.

make normal toast, but butter it with this mixture:

butter
sugar
cinnamon

adjust it to taste... spread it and oh baby it's soo yummy!

Just put the butter on the bread BEFORE toasting.

I don't remember the web address but there is a Toast Museum floating around somewhere on the web. Collection of all sorts of toasters.

i usually toss butter and shredded cheddar on top of mine, and brown lightly. Some garlic powder most times, and one time in a pinch I used Old Bay for seasoning.

And I wonder how I got the nickname "Phatman" ???

Toast... it's what's for breakfast :)

French Bread Cinnamon French Toast... my sister made it one day for brunch. AMAZING! Lots of cinnamon sugar and butter...

Challah Frech Toast... sliced thick. Find Challah bread at your local jewish deli.

By the way, do any of you find that cutting your toast on the diagonal makes it taste better? I do. Oh, and especially sandwiches. Dunno why though. Guess it's all in the head?

EeOh1 09-22-2003 08:31 PM

I'm looking forward to trying this stuff out. I've had cinammon French toast. That stuff is amazing. :)

It's in the head, crackpot. I prefer mine in the shape of hearts. :p

Cynthetiq 09-22-2003 08:34 PM

doesn't make it taste better but does give more surface area with the minimal amount of crust.

has anyone else had a1 steak sauce on toast?

fucking AMAZING.

There's actually a book which I'm giving as a present to a friend called "Toast: Homage to a Superfood". She eats a lot of it.

I'm a fan of cheese, onion and hot sauce on toast, under the grill, but heavily-buttered toast will work any time. Thanks for some of the cooler suggestions on this page - there goes my diet...

When I was younger my mom always made us toast with a top hat. I don't remember what it's actually called but basically you cut a small circle out of the middle of your bread. Toast your bread some in a frying pan with butter and the work. Then add an egg into the hole and continue to cook it. When it's done you have your eggs and toast already combined with a cool "hat" to top it off with.

You can also make texas toast on a gas stove by holding the bread with a pair of tongs. Set the burner on low, hold the bread 3 or 4 inches above the flame and keep the bread moving so it doesn't burn.

Personally, I'm partial to rye or wheat toast; don't care for white bread.

It's all about nutella, baby. A chocolate/hazelnut spread straight outta germany. It can sometimes be found in the "international section" of bigger supermarkets. Mmm... i could go for some now.

em1014 10-03-2003 10:34 AM

mmm.. I've forgoten about nutella. We used to get it as treats in school. I think I need to go buy some now!!

I go seriously gaga over sizzler cheese toast. Im so sad. I keep asking the waitress to bring more out. By the end of the meeal all I have to do is make eye contact with her and she nodds and brings me more. I love it.

Best cinnamon toast ever--
Liberally butter the bread of your choice....cover in cinnamon and sugar. Put it under the broiler for a few minutes....til the edges of the bread are nice and crispy. YUM!!!! It's soft and mushy in the middle, crispy around the edges. Perfect breakfast.

bobw 10-07-2003 08:55 PM

Toast bread lightly... spread Nutella on it and cover it with sliced bananas.... MMMmmmmmmm!!!

This was my most absolute favorite as a kid! My Mom used to have a little bottle of cinnamon & sugar pre-mixed so we could use it at free will. Mmmmmmmm cinnamon toast - what memories that brings back for me! :)

lol was the same for me! mom used to make it for us whenever we asked (begged) for it.

Forgot about it for awhile... then one day got the idea to make it again and the memories flooded back!!!
