strawberries
 

I posted this on the health and fitness list and got no responses. Maybe you guys will know better.

Yesterday, I bought a package of strawberries. One of the ones in the center was covered with white hairs. I threw that one and a couple of the ones it was touching away. Are the rest of them still good? What caused this? Is it a fungus or maybe a spider web?

probably mold... just throw out the nasty ones and wash the others to get rid of the mold you can't see

It is mold...I have cleaned them up, threw the yucky ones away, and ate the rest...I am still alive , so I guess it is OK

Just a tip; when you pick a basket of strawberries at the market, lift it up and look at the underside. That's one good way to spot moldy berries that you can't see from the top; besides, the ones in the bottom are likely to go bad faster. If you see mold, get another basket and save yourself some trouble.
