I think I would rather just make my sandwhiches when I need them.

That takes out all the adventure of eating though. Be a man, eat an old sandwhich.

that reminds me of that episode of the simpsons where homer took a couple of weeks to eat that big sub, and in the end it was purple and had mushrooms on it...i dont know

Three month old army sandwich
 

When I was in the military I wanted to take a shower the night before an excercise. One of my mates walked into the bathroom and said he would have to clean his mess tin since he forgot to clean it after his last excercise.
When he had told us he hadn't been on an excercise for about three month and that he thought he must still have a sandwich in there all my comrades started to hurry through the door.
From safe distance we watched as he unlocked his mess tin.
The whole lid came off and with a loud FOUMP it crashed into the ceiling.
The next day he asked for a new mess tin and had quite a hard time explaining why he thought the old one wasn't usable anymore.

Now, even if the army could make some better sandwiches in the future, after this experience I wouldn't want to eat it.

It still probably tastes better than a MRE.
