Donuts
The anti-bagel thread.
![]() For me the best yeast donut comes from Long's Bakery in Indianapolis. I don't live in Indy but if I did, I'd weigh 300 pounds. I would have a hard time avoiding this place. Not only are the yeast donuts great but so are their cinammon fries. Their donuts melt in your mouth differently than Krispy Kreme. For one thing, they are larger than Krispy Kremes and a bit more substantial. I wish I had one (actually four) now. Two years ago when my father had heart surgery at Methodist, my brother and I stayed with a friend in Speedway. We stopped by Long's each morning on the way to the hospital and would pick up several dozen donuts to bring to the CICU staff. Not saying Dad got better care because of that, but we didn't have any complaints. ![]() Post your favorites. And salivate. |

loove Doughnuts. Donuts. However it's spelled. I grew up on Tim Horton's but must say that the Krispy Kreme Original Glazed - hot out of the cooker - was one of the best that I've tasted.
They also do a great job with their Boston Cream. Another of my favs is the Tiny Tom product - the cinnamon sugar flavour mini's that are also hot out of the cooker: HOT AND FRESH TINY TOM DONUTS

I Confess a Shiver
|
Guys, I have a confession. I haven't really told anybody except the few women I've lived with... but I've got a problem.
I love toasted coconut donuts. I would eat them every day of the week for breakfast if I could. They're my Kryptonite. Haven't had one in years. I keep telling myself that I don't need junk food and that I can't justify the bad calorie splurge. The substantial, filling feeling of the cake donut, the crumby texture of the coconut flakes, and easy no-napkin clean up. My god... I'm thousands of miles from the nearest good Dunkin Donuts and I'm having horrible cravings. Depressing. |

Our last good doughnut shop closed up a few months back. Luckily for us, they opened up a branch of Voodoo Doughnuts in Eugene, so when we go to Eugene, doughnuts it is. Their Portland Creme is my favorite.
Don't forget, the magic is in the hole: Voodoo Doughnut - The Magic is in the Hole!!!

I too love doughnuts. My favourite are glazed sour cream doughnuts. Second Cup (a Canadian chain of coffee shops) has a really good one... it's dense and cakey with just the right amount of glaze.
That said, I wouldn't say no to a good duchie, cruller or chocolate glazed. Doughnuts were a bit of a fad in Singapore a couple years ago. There were line ups at the place near my old office. Their idea of doughnuts, like their ideas of baked good in general, are just a little different than what I am used to. They are happy with your standard doughnut (the kind that would be typically chocolate dipped, if you know what I mean) but they use all kinds of different dips and frostings. Additionally, they like to put stuff in the holes (whipped cream, durian cream, apple pie filling, etc.). I haven't had a good doughnut since I was last in Canada, and then, I stopped at one.

I had never had one until I was in Seattle. Never found one again until I was just outside of Charlotte (NC). I would almost kill for another.

Road Trip? Mail order? Seriously, this may become a quest worthy of the Bacon thread.
