Move Over, Venti! Starbucks Introduces the "Trenta"

In several U.S. states this spring, Starbucks is unveiling a new size—the Trenta—a 31 oz. (or 3.9 cup) format for iced beverages.

Who's excited?!

Apparently the sweetened version of drinks for this cup will have less than 230 calories, but that's still a lot of fluid!

While I wouldn't say I was excited, I suspect I may have a few of these in my future once the temperature hits 80.

While I despise Starbucks, a larger size would mean I could ask for more ice. I usually request places pack the cup with ice before filling it with the drink. I hate warm or cool drinks, when I want a cold drink I want it COLD!

I actually hope that they'll do the iced herbal teas in this size.
It's good for me, and lasts longer. I usually have a refill if I'm there for longer than an hour working on school stuff. And I'm glad to see that they are NOT doing the fatty drinks in this size.

It's apparently meant for the cold beverages only. I wonder if they'll give in and allow hot beverages to be served in it. Maybe not, if it's plastic.

I suspect that their legal department would frown on the notion of filling cups with scalding hot liquids when those cups aren't designed for scalding hot liquids.

Presumably, they would have to make this size in the cardboard/wax covered material they make the hot beverage cups out of. Ahh food packaging! Sometimes I think those in the packaging science field have just run out of ways to be creative and figure just making things larger is the way to go. So much waste, blech! Like the Sunsweet Ones, why?!? They are dried fruit, do we really need to keep them individually wrapped to keep them moist.

Ok, sorry way off track of the original post.

I was in NYC last weekend and passed by a number of Starbucks. They all had the same advertisement on the doors, with the end of the ad stating "5 cal.", as in calories. The first time I saw it, my brain expanded the abbreviation to "5 gallons", and I could only imagine.

Oh, yes, please.

I love nothing more than a giant Starbucks iced tea lemonade in the summer. I will probably be ordering this size and regretting it when I visit the bathroom seven times in an afternoon.

Trenta means "thirty" in Italian. It's just over 30 oz.

I suppose "Trenta" is something you could call those women whose biological clock is ticking in full gear.

Yes, a quick Google search for Trenta reveals its Italian definition. It also kills my attempt at humor.

Newspeak'd: The word is no longer Italian when yuppies solely link it with a beverage size from a coffee shop. SEE: Kleenex.

I'd hate to see what would happen should I go as low as to start posting my Super Big Gulp jokes.

Which fits here because Starbucks is essentially becoming the upper class 7-11 for self-important gluttonous Americans.

Why don't they just partner with Camelbak already? I want a single beverage with volume equal to my entire torso.

I'm glad Europe still offers things in tiny bottles and cans. I think Europe has it right: giant beer, tiny coffee.

All I can say is that I was a lunch yesterday and finished it off with what may have been the best espresso I've ever had. Sublime.

I've kept an eye out for the last month, but haven't seen the Trenta. Figured they'd take advantage of the 85 degree weather last week and roll it out on time... I'm feeling a little miffed that I should have had access on the 18th of January.
Gimme my gigundo herbal iced tea, dammit!
