what beer goes best with whiskey?
My fav drink is still jack and coke, but I don't always want the caffeine. What's a good beer to mix whiskey with?
So far: heinekein: no any american piss (bud light, etc) : no guiness: surprisingly no |
You'd need something pretty hearty to stand up to the whiskey. Try a porter or stout.

Robert the Bruce Scottish Ale brewed by Three Floyds in Munster IN. Probably pretty hard to find. But if you do
|
I would order Sam Adams Black.
|
Why not just have a caffeine free cola?
|
Guiness.

i usually drink either scotch or bourbon when i drink whiskey and can't imagine mixing it except maybe with a touch of bitter vermouth in the form of a perfect manhattan.
so i would say a little water. or an ice cube. |
I like the taste of whiskey so I was still thinking of a light beer, just not sure what.
|
Whiskey doesn't tend to go well with lighter beers, in my experience.
The porter/stout suggestion is the closest. I love bourbon-brewed porters, dark ales, and stouts. The 30th anniversary Sierra Nevada does go really well when you're drinking Balvenie, I have found. A hearty oatmeal stout blends well, too, but avoid Young's Double Chocolate when drinking whiskey... lol. |
Listen to the Noodle... she knows her beer and whiskey.

Without sounding like a pussy, I like a glass of water on the side with my liquor. It doesn't drown out the taste of the liquor and it keeps you from having an hangover the next day. |
I have never heard of mixing whiskey with beer. Sounds like a good way to ruin a good beer or a good whiskey.
The only thing I like that is remotely close is bourbon barrel beers--they don't really have any bourbon in them; they're just aged in barrels that did have bourbon in them. |
Thanks noodle.
snowy: shrug. I've never liked the taste alone of either. Together though... |
My experience with whiskey is taking shots of Jack followed with a chaser of Coors Light. I'm not sure thats appropriate to your concern, though :)
|
Get a Bourbon Barrell Ale or Stout, drinks like a beer but with the bourbon flavor.

I'm not a fan of mixing whiskey generally either, but since it was asked...
I have actually put a shot of whiskey into a bourbon barrel aged beer. (Black Tuesday Irish Car Bomb!) My head hurt the next day! |
